Duties & Responsibilities:- Supports the Department Chair and University of Hawaii Primary Care and Internal Medicine (UHPCIM) Program Director by assisting with curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, as well as faculty and organizational development. Ensures development aligns with educational principles, accreditation requirements, and the University’s objectives.
- Mentors advanced medical students, interns, and residents.
- Participates in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, as well as in faculty and organizational development.
- Helps develop and evaluate a Primary Care Curriculum for UHPCIM residents and medical students.
- May serve on committees as agreed upon by the Department Chair/UHPCIM Program Director.
- Other scholarly duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Assistant Professor
- MD degree or equivalent medical degree from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of an appropriate residency and/or fellowship training program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
- Board certification or qualification to become board certified in Internal Medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine.
- Valid Hawaii Medical license by date of hire.
- Demonstrated ability in teaching and patient care.
- Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
- Organizational skills and leadership abilities.
Associate Professor
Assistant Professor plus:
- Four years in the rank of Assistant Professor, or four years of other medical experience, or a total of four years of teaching in the rank of Assistant Professor and other experience, or one year at the rank of Associate Professor at another medical school of recognized standing.
- Board certification in Internal Medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and recertification when appropriate.
- Evidence of excellent patient care in a collaborative environment.
- Evidence of effective research and scholarly activity (i.e., recent publications in peer- reviewed journals or regional/national presentations, quality initiatives, or medical education administration.
- Experience in academic and/or clinical program administration.
- Familiarity with Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and ACGME requirements.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience with curriculum development and evaluation.
- Eligibility for clinical privileges at The Queen’s Health.
- Familiarity with curriculum development and evaluation, provider of educational activities as required by the LCME, ACGME, and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).
