Finance Professor Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance professor in Hawaii?
To become a finance professor in Hawaii, you typically need a doctoral degree in finance, economics, or a closely related discipline, as Hawaii's universities and colleges follow standard higher-education hiring norms with no separate state teaching license required at the university level. Community colleges within the University of Hawaii System may require a master's degree plus relevant professional experience. Building a research portfolio and gaining teaching assistant or adjunct experience while completing your doctorate strengthens your candidacy significantly.
Which companies hire finance professors in Hawaii?
Employers hiring finance professors in Hawaii right now include University of Hawaii system, Chamberlain University, and University of Maryland Global Campus, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The University of Hawaii System, which includes flagship campuses and community colleges across the islands, is the largest single source of sustained demand for finance faculty in the state.
Which Hawaii cities have the most finance professor jobs?
Honolulu, Hilo, and Oahu Island are the Hawaii cities with the most finance professor openings, driven by the concentration of accredited universities and business schools in those areas. Honolulu anchors the market as home to the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Hawaii Pacific University, and Chaminade University, while Hilo draws demand from the University of Hawaii at Hilo serving the Big Island's growing student population.
Are there remote finance professor jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, though they represent a smaller share of openings than in purely desk-based fields, since many finance professor roles involve in-person instruction, committee service, and student advising. About 29% of finance professor openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting institutions expanding online degree programs. Fully online course delivery and distance-learning adjunct positions are the parts of the role most likely to be listed as remote.
How can I get hired as a finance professor in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing an adjunct or visiting instructor position within the University of Hawaii System, which regularly fills part-time teaching roles that do not require a completed doctorate. Candidates with a master's degree and professional experience in banking, financial planning, or corporate finance are competitive for community college positions at Honolulu Community College or Leeward Community College. Building a teaching portfolio through those roles, completing dissertation work, and attending University of Hawaii faculty development programs creates a clear track to full-time positions.
