The Role
The CTSP / Trainer owns Safety & Training for our field crews. You will run our Pre-Apprentice Arborist Academy, move new hires up our career ladder (Pre-Apprentice "Pinky", Junior Apprentice, Apprentice, Journeyworker) and make sure every crew works to ANSI Z133 every day. Safety training supports both GTC and PHC crews.
Reports to: General Tree Care Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the weekly safety meeting for all GTC and PHC field crews, and review near misses, close calls and incidents
- Run the Pre-Apprentice Arborist Academy: knots, ANSI Z133 climbing standards, gear inspection, tree and palm climbing, written exams and field assessments
- Coordinate training cohorts and the schedule and timing of new hires
- Oversee apprentice registration, wage progression tracking and on-the-ground training in our Registered Arborist Apprenticeship
- Coach Journeyworkers and Crew Leaders to mentor and train apprentices
- Audit jobsites for Job Safety Analyses, job briefings, PPE and daily pre-climb, aerial lift and chipper inspections
- Investigate incidents, review Incident Report Forms, find root causes and deliver corrective training
- Support Plant Health Care safety standards for chemical handling, storage and PPE
- Keep training records, checklists and assessments up to date
How You Are Measured
- Incident Rate per 1,000 hours worked, goal 1.75 or lower each week
- Pre-Apprentices and Apprentices progressing on schedule through the Academy and apprenticeship
- Safety meetings, jobsite audits and incident follow-ups completed on time
Daily and Weekly Rhythm
- Crews meet at the yard at 5:45 AM
- Weekly safety meeting with all field crews before the workday
- Academy training days run 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
- Jobsite visits across Oahu to observe, coach and audit
- Weekly safety and training numbers reported to the GTC Manager
Requirements
- TCIA Certified Tree Care Safety Professional (CTSP), or able to earn it within 12 months of hire
- ISA Certified Arborist preferred
- Strong working knowledge of ANSI Z133 safety standards
- 3+ years of tree care field experience, including tree climbing; aerial lift experience preferred
- Experience teaching, training or leading field crews
- First Aid / CPR certified, or willing to certify
- Valid driver's license
- Comfortable with apps and digital forms for inspections, incident reports and training records
- Able to start before 6:00 AM and travel between jobsites across Oahu
Pay
$65,000 - $80,000 per year DOE, plus a quarterly performance bonus tied to safety and training KPIs
