Program Development Manager Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a program development manager job in Houston?
Target Houston's three dominant hiring sectors: healthcare systems anchored around the Texas Medical Center, energy companies concentrated in the Energy Corridor, and nonprofits and educational institutions spread across Midtown and the Heights. Candidates who can demonstrate cross-functional program ownership, budget management, and stakeholder alignment stand out locally. Attending Houston-area professional associations and industry events in these sectors also builds the connections that often lead to direct referrals.
Which companies hire program development managers in Houston?
Employers hiring program development managers in Houston right now include Ardurra, Harris County, and Quanta Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Houston's market includes a mix of large healthcare networks, integrated energy firms, municipal agencies, and regional nonprofits, all of which regularly staff program development roles at multiple levels.
Are there remote program development manager jobs in Houston?
Yes, though availability depends on the sector, since program development manager roles tied to healthcare delivery, energy operations, or community programs tend to require on-site presence. About 9% of program development manager openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with flexibility most common in corporate strategy, foundation, and technology-adjacent roles where stakeholder meetings can happen virtually.
How can I get a program development manager job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is through program coordinator or project associate roles inside large healthcare systems, energy firms, or nonprofits, where internal promotion into program development management is common. Houston's robust nonprofit sector, including United Way of Greater Houston and local health advocacy organizations, frequently hires junior program staff who can advance quickly. Building proficiency in grant writing, outcome reporting, and stakeholder communication gives entry-level candidates a concrete edge in Houston's market.
Which industries hire the most program development managers in Houston?
The sectors hiring the most program development managers in Houston are Consulting & Professional Services, Energy, and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Houston's scale as a global energy hub and the presence of the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world, creates concentrated and sustained demand for experienced program development professionals across both sectors.
