Job Summary

The Branch Manager is a licensed Texas Professional Engineer (PE) that oversees the branch office staff and manages all aspects of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) projects within their service area, including field work, deliverables, and client communication, under the direction of the Director of Utility Engineering Services. The branch manager has a thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, and procedures to provide SUE services as defined in ACEC Standard 38-22. The Branch Manager operates under a certain degree of autonomy using the staff and resources allocated to them to provide top quality service to their service area clients while meeting profitability goals. The Branch Manager position is salaried, exempt from overtime position, and may require working more than 40 hours per week.

Essential Job Functions

• Schedules crews and resources in an efficient, and equitable manner.
• Manages office technical staff assigned in the Branch office; including daily supervision, approval of timesheets; annual performance reviews. Assists the Area SUE Field Manager in the management of field staff assigned in the Branch office
• Responsible for project proposals and estimates submitted by the Branch office. Prepares proposals/estimates, and reviews proposals/estimates completed by subordinates
• Responsible for project deliverables submitted by the Branch office. Prepares project deliverables and project related correspondence, and reviews project deliverables completed by subordinates for quality/accuracy
• Responsible for business development for the Branch office; including developing and maintaining relationships with existing and new clients, tracking and teaming on project pursuits
• Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with subconsultants, and overseeing subconsultant performance on Branch office projects
• Represents the firm at client meetings, interviews and presentations
• Responsible for invoicing and Accounts Receivable with service area clients. Reviews invoices/progress reports completed by subordinates
• Responsible for overall quality, accuracy, timeliness and financial performance of projects in the Branch Office
• Works closely with the SUE Field Manager and President to ensure quality, accuracy, and timeliness of field work completed on Branch office projects
• Participates in the recruitment of staff for the Branch office. Oversees the hiring and termination of Branch employees, in conjunction with the President and Human resources
• Oversees and documents disciplinary actions of subordinates, in conjunction with Human Resources, and President
• Models compliance with company policies and monitors that all subordinates adhere to policies
• Models job-site safety and monitors that all subordinates adhere to safety protocols
• Communicates clearly and respectfully via phone, email, text, and face-to-face conversations with Clients, Subordinates, and Management

Additional Job Duties (If Applicable)

• Actively participates in at least one professional organization.
• Oversees any social activities for the Branch office, in conjunction with the President
• Works additional hours as needed to meet demands of branch operations

Qualifications

• Education - B.S. degree in Civil Engineering
• Certification – Professional Engineer, Civil, in Texas
• Previous Engineering experience in SUE and Utility Coordination highly preferred, Minimum of 8 years of experience in related Civil Engineering field required
• Mastery of MS Office products, i.e.: MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook
• Proficient knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation and Open Roads Designer
• Must pass pre-employment drug & alcohol screenings
• Must be authorized to work in the United States

Minimum Physical Requirements

• Able to tolerate stress during peak work hours
