Professional Engineer Jobs in Georgia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a professional engineer in Georgia?
You earn your PE license by passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam after completing an ABET-accredited bachelor's degree, then accumulating supervised engineering experience before sitting for the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam. The Georgia State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors administers licensure and renewal in the state. Georgia also participates in interstate reciprocity, so engineers licensed elsewhere can apply for comity licensure without re-examination.
How much do professional engineers make in Georgia?
Professional engineers in Georgia earn a median of about $84,240 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $62,850 for the lowest 10% to over $153,690 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire professional engineers in Georgia?
Employers hiring professional engineers in Georgia right now include JFrog, GWES, and Solvstaff, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Georgia's mix of state infrastructure agencies, utility companies, and engineering consulting firms means sustained hiring across civil, mechanical, and environmental disciplines throughout the year.
Which Georgia cities have the most professional engineer jobs?
Atlanta, Monroe, and Newnan have the most professional engineer openings in Georgia. Atlanta dominates because it concentrates the state's largest engineering consultancies, utility headquarters, and transportation agencies, while Savannah's growth is fueled by port expansion projects and industrial construction, and Augusta draws steady demand from energy and defense-related employers in the region.
Are there remote professional engineer jobs in Georgia?
Yes, but they're relatively limited. About 50% of professional engineer openings tied to Georgia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting that much of the work involves site visits, inspections, and hands-on project oversight. The sub-disciplines most likely to offer remote or hybrid arrangements are structural analysis, traffic modeling, and environmental permitting, where significant work can be completed using design software and document review.
How can I get hired as a professional engineer in Georgia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for Engineer in Training or junior engineer roles at Georgia's large public-sector employers and consulting firms, such as the Georgia Department of Transportation, Georgia Power, and mid-size civil engineering consultancies headquartered in metro Atlanta. Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and holding an EIT designation gives early-career candidates a clear credentialing advantage. Adjacent roles like engineering technician or project coordinator at construction management firms frequently transition into full engineering positions as you accumulate supervised hours toward PE eligibility.
Where can I find and apply to professional engineer jobs in Georgia?
You can find and apply to professional engineer jobs in Georgia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Georgia openings across specialties and experience levels. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and target location, and apply directly to the positions that interest you.
