ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, coordinates, and ensures consistency and quality of training, habilitation, and development programs for persons with disabilities. Supervises classroom and vocational activities by performing the following duties and by coordinating schedules/events of Direct Support employees, Vocational Instructors, etc. Relies on experience, knowledge, and judgment and to lead and direct the work of others.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position supervises Direct Support Professionals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Formulates training policies, programs, and schedules, based on knowledge of individual people supported needs.
- Devises special teaching tools, techniques, and equipment and creates learning materials geared to each people supported ability and interest.
- Arranges and adjusts tools, work aids, and equipment utilized by people supported in classroom such as specially equipped worktables, computers, typewriters, and other mechanized and non-mechanized aids.
- Instructs people supported in all facets of their individualized programs including but not limited to improving sensory motor and perceptual motor development, perception, memory, language, cognition, and social and emotional development.
- Works with people supported to enhance their motivation, provide consistent reinforcement to learning, continuous assessment of level of functioning, and continuous feedback to people supported and clinical team for all learning activities.
- Ensures confidentiality regarding sensitive material, and includes people supported rights to privacy, employee complaints, supervisor and unit problems, investigations, and legal proceedings.
- Provides input to staff performance evaluations.
- Plans and assists with the implementation of special events within and outside the day program/vocational center.
- Attends mandatory meetings and training sessions as required and scheduled by unit management staff, Administrator or corporate managers.
- Trains staff on day program procedures, modular day training, makes staff assignments, ensures adequate staffing; schedules lunches, breaks and orders supplies.
- Ensures physical conditions in the day program/vocational center are safe and conducive for learning.
- Reports all accidents, hazards, and needed repairs.
- Understands and enforces universal medical precautions by utilizing personal protective and safety equipment.
- Seeks understanding of and follows company policy with regard to personnel, regulations, safety, & blood borne pathogens.
- Understands, teaches and utilizes proper body mechanics while assisting with behavioral intervention techniques, dependent/independent transfers and positioning of people supported regardless of individual weight distribution.
- Conducts fire and disaster drills, sites location and use of exits, and fire extinguisher.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Regularly required to lift 20 lbs.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
- Must be able to pull a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Must be able to squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, and stoop.
- Must be able to regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Required to regularly stand and walk.
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in CPR from the floor level requiring to work on hands, knees, bending, standing and lifting.
- Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
- Must be able to talk and hear.
