Program Supervisor Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a program supervisor in New York?
Most program supervisor roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in social work, public health, human services, or a related field, with a master's degree preferred for state-funded programs. While no single state license is required for the title itself, many positions in behavioral health or social services expect staff to hold or be working toward an LMSW or LCSW issued by the New York State Education Department. Relevant field experience in New York-funded programs strengthens any application significantly.
Which companies hire program supervisors in New York?
Employers hiring program supervisors in New York right now include Wolfspeed, City of New York, and Interstate Waste Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense concentration of state-contracted nonprofits, public hospital systems, and government agencies means program supervisor openings appear consistently across the five boroughs and major upstate cities year-round.
Which New York cities have the most program supervisor jobs?
New York, Bronx, and Marcy have the most program supervisor openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its scale of nonprofit and public health infrastructure, while Albany's concentration of state agency headquarters drives consistent openings upstate, and Buffalo's network of community health and social services organizations keeps regional demand steady.
Are there remote program supervisor jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since program supervisors frequently oversee staff and services in person. About 11% of program supervisor openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with most flexibility found in grant management, program evaluation, and administrative oversight roles rather than direct-service supervision.
How can I get hired as a program supervisor in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up from a case manager, direct care, or program coordinator role within a New York human services or healthcare organization. Large employers like NYC Health + Hospitals and agencies operating under New York State OPWDD or OMH contracts regularly promote from within and post associate-level supervisory openings. Earning an LMSW through the New York State Education Department or completing a graduate field placement with a state-contracted provider gives candidates a concrete edge when applying for their first supervisory role.
Where can I find and apply to program supervisor jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to program supervisor jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across New York City, Albany, Buffalo, and other parts of the state. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialty area, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
