Mid Level Project Controls Specialist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level project controls specialist job?
Lead with ownership, not just participation. Highlight work where you managed a cost or schedule baseline independently, produced earned value reports that informed decisions, or identified a variance before it became a problem. Employers at this level want to see that you can run controls work with limited oversight, so frame your experience around outcomes and accountability rather than tasks completed.
Which companies hire mid level project controls specialists?
Companies hiring mid level project controls specialists right now include Burns & McDonnell, Fluor, and Raytheon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a mix of large engineering and construction firms, government contractors, and capital-intensive energy and infrastructure organizations that run complex multi-phase projects requiring dedicated controls staff.
Are there remote mid level project controls specialist jobs?
Yes, though the role is more field-adjacent than many professional positions. About 11% of mid level project controls specialist openings are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, concentrated in reporting, forecasting, and schedule analysis functions where proximity to a job site is not required daily. Fully on-site roles remain common in construction and field-based capital projects.
How do I move up to a mid level project controls specialist role?
Growth into mid level comes from accumulating ownership, not just years. Early-career controls work typically involves supporting others' baselines and running standard reports. Moving up means taking on a cost or schedule baseline as the primary owner, catching and communicating variances independently, and demonstrating that your analysis shapes project decisions rather than just documenting them. Building proficiency in scheduling and cost tools like Primavera P6 or Earned Value methodologies deepens your technical standing and signals readiness for greater scope.
Which industries hire the most mid level project controls specialists?
Mid Level project controls specialist roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Energy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors drive hiring because they run large capital projects with defined scopes, tight cost constraints, and contractual reporting obligations that require dedicated controls professionals to maintain schedule integrity and financial accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
