About the Role:
As a senior consultant- senior project manager in the Change Management Learning and Development practice area, you will collaborate with team members to provide project management leadership across one or more workstreams within the SUNY Digital Transformation Project, supporting planning, execution, coordination, reporting, and delivery activities. This role will work closely with SUNY stakeholders, implementation teams, vendors, and the SUNY project management office to ensure project activities are aligned with overall Digital Transformation Project objectives.
Serving as a senior project manager, your day-to-day role as a NYSTEC consultant will include managing complex technology implementation, modernization, or digital transformation projects in higher education and/or state government environments. This individual should bring strong experience leading cross-functional teams, managing project schedules and budgets, supporting project management office (PMO) governance, facilitating requirements and stakeholder working sessions, and delivering executive-level status reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of assigned SUNY Digital Transformation Project workstreams through all phases of the project lifecycle.
- Develop and manage project plans, schedules, scope, milestones, resources, and project documentation to ensure successful delivery.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams, including SUNY stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, implementation partners, and subject matter experts.
- Facilitate requirements gathering, stakeholder meetings, and project workshops to support decision-making and align project objectives.
- Monitor and manage project scope, risks, issues, dependencies, deliverables, change requests, and overall project performance.
- Prepare and communicate project status, including progress, timelines, risks, resource needs, and budget considerations.
- Ensure compliance with PMO governance, project management standards, and quality expectations.
- Coordinate vendor activities, support budget and resource planning, and lead project closeout, knowledge transfer, and transition activities.
About you:
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience managing complex technology implementation, modernization, digital transformation, or enterprise application projects.
- Experience supporting projects in higher education and/or state government environments.
- Experience managing the full project lifecycle, including project planning, scope, schedules, budgets, risks, issues, dependencies, deliverables, and closeout.
- Experience coordinating cross-functional teams, including business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, implementation partners, subject matter experts, and executive leadership.
- Experience facilitating requirements gathering sessions, stakeholder workshops, or similar business analysis and project planning activities.
- Experience preparing executive-level communications, project status reports, meeting materials, portfolio updates, and decision materials.
- Knowledge of structured project management methodologies, PMO governance, and standards-based project delivery practices.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively in a complex, matrixed environment.
- Advanced communication, facilitation, organization, analytical, leadership, and relationship management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and Microsoft Project.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications
- Experience managing technology projects for New York State agencies or other public sector organizations.
- Experience supporting higher education technology initiatives, enterprise modernization efforts, or large-scale digital transformation programs.
- Familiarity with New York State project management methodologies, software development lifecycle practices, governance processes, and administrative structures.
- Experience supporting PMO, Program Management Offices (PgMO), portfolio reporting, executive dashboards, project health reporting, or project governance functions.
- Experience managing application development, system modernization, legacy transformation, or enterprise platform implementation projects using Agile, Waterfall, iterative, or hybrid delivery methodologies.
- Experience coordinating vendors, contractors, implementation partners, or third-party service providers.
- Experience supporting requirements documentation, business process analysis, solution design coordination, testing, implementation, training, transition, or knowledge transfer activities.
- Project Management Professional (PMP), Project Management Institute- Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), Scrum Master, Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), or related certification is preferred but not required.
- Experience using Asana and/or Monday.com.
Education and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree and three-five years of related experience in information technology, business or project management.
- An equivalent combination of advanced education, training, and experience will be considered.
The target base salary for this position is $84,497.00 to $109,846.00 per year. When determining compensation, we analyze and carefully consider several factors, including skill set, experience, location, and job-related qualifications.
