Data Consultant Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data consultant in New York?
Becoming a data consultant in New York typically starts with a bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as data science, statistics, economics, or computer science, and no state-issued license is required for the role. New York employers place strong weight on demonstrated analytical skills, so building a portfolio of projects or earning recognized certifications in tools like Tableau, dbt, or cloud platforms gives candidates a competitive edge. Many enter the field through analyst or business intelligence roles at New York financial institutions, consulting firms, or technology companies before moving into consulting.
How much do data consultants make in New York?
Data consultants in New York earn a median of about $130,460 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $73,330 for the lowest 10% to over $214,080 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data consultants in New York?
Employers hiring data consultants in New York right now include EY, Capgemini, and Boston Consulting, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's deep concentration of financial services firms, healthcare systems, and global consulting offices means demand for data consultants stays consistent across both large enterprises and mid-size boutique advisory practices.
Which New York cities have the most data consultant jobs?
New York, Atlanta, and Brooklyn have the most data consultant openings in New York. New York City dominates due to its dense concentration of global financial institutions, consulting headquarters, and media companies, while Buffalo and Albany generate steady demand through healthcare networks, state government agencies, and regional professional services firms that rely on data consulting for compliance and operational analytics.
Are there remote data consultant jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields, since data consulting work is largely analytical and deliverable-based rather than tied to a physical site. About 43% of data consultant openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how widely the role has shifted toward distributed teams since the pandemic. Strategy and reporting work tends to be the most remote-friendly, while engagements requiring on-site client workshops or data infrastructure access are more likely to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a data consultant in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a junior data analyst or associate consultant role at one of New York's large financial services firms, consulting practices, or healthcare systems, which regularly bring on new graduates for structured analyst programs. Firms like Deloitte and IBM run formal entry-level programs in their New York offices, and many regional hospitals and insurance companies hire associate data analysts who transition into consulting projects over time. A portfolio of independent or academic projects, combined with a certification in SQL, Python, or a major BI tool, gives candidates without professional experience a concrete way to demonstrate readiness.
Where can I find and apply to data consultant jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to data consultant jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly to each one.
