Data Consultant Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data consultant in Massachusetts?
Data consulting in Massachusetts has no state-issued license, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical skill. Most employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, and many Boston-area firms in life sciences and finance prefer candidates with a master's or an MBA with a data analytics concentration. Earning a recognized credential such as the Certified Analytics Professional or a cloud-platform certification from AWS or Google strengthens applications considerably in this market.
How much do data consultants make in Massachusetts?
Data consultants in Massachusetts earn a median of about $131,750 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $81,030 for the lowest 10% to over $206,220 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data consultants in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring data consultants in Massachusetts right now include EY, RSM, and MassMutual, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Massachusetts's deep concentration of life sciences companies, major hospital systems, and financial services firms means hiring activity stays consistent throughout the year across the Greater Boston area.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most data consultant jobs?
Boston and Springfield account for the largest share of data consultant openings in Massachusetts. Boston and Cambridge drive volume through their dense clusters of consulting firms, biotech companies, and academic medical centers, while Waltham and Burlington attract openings from the Route 128 technology and pharmaceutical corridor, where many national consulting firms have regional delivery centers.
Are there remote data consultant jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 100% of data consultant openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how well the analytical and advisory work translates to distributed teams. Client-facing strategy and discovery phases are most commonly on-site or hybrid, while modeling, reporting, and dashboard development work are the tasks most frequently done remotely.
How can I get hired as a data consultant in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior analyst or associate consultant role at one of the large professional services firms that recruit directly from Massachusetts universities, including Boston University, Northeastern, and UMass Amherst. Northeastern's co-op program places students in paid data roles at Massachusetts employers before graduation, which is a strong alternative to traditional internships. Candidates who build a portfolio of reproducible analysis projects and earn a cloud-platform certification stand out, and lateral moves from adjacent roles such as business analyst, data engineer, or healthcare reporting analyst are a well-established way in.
Where can I find and apply to data consultant jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to data consultant jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current Massachusetts openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Find a role that fits and apply directly from the listing.
