Data Consultant Jobs in North Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data consultant in North Carolina?
A bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, computer science, or a related quantitative field is the standard entry point for data consultants in North Carolina. The role carries no state-issued license, but earning a recognized certification such as the Certified Analytics Professional strengthens candidacy. North Carolina employers, particularly in Charlotte's financial corridor and the Research Triangle's technology sector, favor candidates who can demonstrate hands-on project experience through a portfolio or applied coursework.
How much do data consultants make in North Carolina?
Data consultants in North Carolina earn a median of about $119,090 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $65,970 for the lowest 10% to over $172,830 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data consultants in North Carolina?
Employers hiring data consultants in North Carolina right now include Infosys, Deloitte, and U.S. Bank, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. North Carolina's concentration of financial institutions in Charlotte and technology and life sciences firms in the Research Triangle Park area means demand stays active across multiple industries throughout the year.
Which North Carolina cities have the most data consultant jobs?
Charlotte, Raleigh, and Durham have the most data consultant openings in North Carolina. Charlotte's large financial services sector drives demand there, while Raleigh and Durham benefit from the Research Triangle Park ecosystem, which clusters major technology companies, pharmaceutical firms, and research universities that consistently need consulting talent close to their campuses and offices.
Are there remote data consultant jobs in North Carolina?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 67% of data consultant openings tied to North Carolina are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the largely desk-based, analytical nature of the work. The tasks most commonly performed remotely include data modeling, dashboard development, and stakeholder reporting, while on-site requirements tend to arise for engagements involving sensitive client data or embedded team collaboration.
How can I get hired as a data consultant in North Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an analyst or junior consultant role at a North Carolina-based consultancy or large employer, using an internship or a degree project as the initial credential. Firms operating in Research Triangle Park, along with Charlotte-area financial institutions, regularly hire recent graduates into associate analyst programs that build consulting skills on the job. Transitioning from a business analyst or data analyst title is common, and building a portfolio of public datasets or capstone projects gives candidates a concrete edge when experience is limited.
