Project Management Consultant Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project management consultant in Hawaii?
The most direct path in Hawaii is earning a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or construction management, then building project experience before sitting for the Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute. Hawaii has no state-issued license specifically for project management consultants, but PMP certification is treated as a de facto standard by federal contractors, state agencies, and construction firms throughout the islands.
How much do project management consultants make in Hawaii?
Project management consultants in Hawaii earn a median of about $78,000 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,930 for the lowest 10% to over $150,440 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project management consultants in Hawaii?
Companies currently hiring project management consultants in Hawaii include First Hawaiian Bank, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Aon, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's heavy reliance on federal defense contracts and large-scale construction means established government contractors and engineering firms account for a significant share of openings.
Which Hawaii cities have the most project management consultant jobs?
Honolulu, Ford Island, and Hawaii are the cities with the most project management consultant openings in Hawaii. Honolulu drives the bulk of demand as the state's commercial, government, and military center, while Maui and Hawaii Island openings are largely tied to resort development, infrastructure upgrades, and public works projects funded at the county level.
Are there remote project management consultant jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, and more than most fields, because much of the planning, reporting, and stakeholder coordination in project management can be done off-site. About 40% of project management consultant openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, though roles tied to construction sites, military installations, or hands-on infrastructure work typically require regular on-site presence across the islands.
How can I get hired as a project management consultant in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a project coordinator or project analyst with a Hawaii state agency, a federal contractor such as Booz Allen Hamilton or SAIC, or a construction management firm working on state infrastructure. These employers regularly bring in junior staff to support program offices. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential from the Project Management Institute while working in an adjacent role, such as operations coordinator, contracts administrator, or construction scheduler, signals readiness and opens doors to full consulting assignments.
Where can I find and apply to project management consultant jobs in Hawaii?
