Program Development Manager Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a program development manager in Hawaii?
Most program development manager roles in Hawaii require at minimum a bachelor's degree in public health, education, social work, business, or a related field, with a master's degree preferred for senior positions. There is no single state-issued license for this role, but positions in healthcare-adjacent programs often expect familiarity with Hawaii Department of Health requirements and, where applicable, HIPAA compliance training. Building experience through Hawaii-based nonprofits, community health centers, or state agency contractor roles is the most direct path.
Which companies hire program development managers in Hawaii?
Employers hiring program development managers in Hawaii right now include Hawaii Medical Service Association, SAIC, and YWCA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's concentration of federally funded health, education, and human services organizations means large institutional employers and mission-driven nonprofits generate the most consistent openings on the islands.
Which Hawaii cities have the most program development manager jobs?
Honolulu, Oahu Island, and Kīhei account for the largest share of program development manager openings in Hawaii. Honolulu drives the majority of postings due to its concentration of state government agencies, major hospital systems, and university campuses, while Hilo and Kailua-Kona activity reflects the presence of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation facilities and community college programs serving the Big Island.
Are there remote program development manager jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, and more than many roles at a comparable level. About 27% of program development manager openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves planning, reporting, and stakeholder coordination rather than on-site program delivery. Positions tied to federally funded grants or national nonprofit networks are the most likely to allow fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a program development manager in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a program coordinator or program associate role at a Hawaii-based nonprofit, community health center, or state agency contractor, where you can build hands-on experience in grant management and outcome reporting. Large employers like the University of Hawaii system and Hawaii Health Systems Corporation hire program support staff and student assistants who often move into manager-track roles. A portfolio showing a grant proposal, logic model, or program evaluation you led, even in a volunteer or coursework context, gives candidates a concrete edge in Hawaii's relationship-driven hiring market.
Where can I find and apply to program development manager jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to program development manager jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current Hawaii openings updated regularly. Search the roles available, find the ones that fit your background and preferred location, and apply directly through each listing.
