Property Accountant Jobs in New Mexico: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a property accountant in New Mexico?
Start with a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, which is the baseline requirement across New Mexico employers. New Mexico does not require a state-specific license to work as a property accountant, but pursuing CPA licensure through the New Mexico Public Accountancy Board strengthens your candidacy significantly. Most employers in Albuquerque and Santa Fe also expect hands-on experience with property management platforms and working knowledge of CAM reconciliation or affordable housing compliance before extending offers.
How much do property accountants make in New Mexico?
Property accountants in New Mexico earn a median of about $78,580 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $52,390 for the lowest 10% to over $125,420 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire property accountants in New Mexico?
New Mexico property accountant roles are posted by Seldin Company, James A. Dinkel P.C., and Apartment Management Consultants and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Tribal entities, municipal housing authorities, and regional commercial real estate firms also maintain consistent property accounting needs throughout the state.
Which New Mexico cities have the most property accountant jobs?
Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and New Mexico account for the greatest concentration of property accountant openings in New Mexico. Albuquerque drives the majority of listings as the state's commercial hub, home to large property management firms, healthcare campuses, and university systems with substantial real estate portfolios, while Santa Fe and Rio Rancho contribute openings tied to government-adjacent property operations and growing residential development.
Are there remote property accountant jobs in New Mexico?
Yes, and they're more available than in many accounting specialties since property accounting is largely desk-based work centered on reconciliations, reporting, and software platforms. About 55% of property accountant openings tied to New Mexico are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the role's analytical nature. Month-end close, financial reporting, and CAM reconciliation tasks are the functions most commonly performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a property accountant in New Mexico with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing an accounts payable or general ledger staff role at a property management company or real estate investment firm in Albuquerque, then building toward a property accountant title from within. Employers like larger New Mexico housing authorities and commercial property managers regularly hire accounting assistants and junior staff accountants without prior real estate experience. Completing Yardi or MRI training, even through self-study, and working toward CPA candidacy through the New Mexico Public Accountancy Board give candidates a measurable edge over other applicants.
Where can I find and apply to property accountant jobs in New Mexico?
You can find and apply to property accountant jobs in New Mexico on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and location preference, and apply directly to each one.
