Psychiatric Nurse Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a psychiatric nurse in Florida?
You become a psychiatric nurse in Florida by earning an Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing, passing the NCLEX-RN, and obtaining an active RN license through the Florida Board of Nursing. Florida participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact, so compact-state license holders can practice without a separate Florida license. Most employers favor candidates who pursue the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center once they have eligible clinical hours.
How much do psychiatric nurses make in Florida?
Psychiatric nurses in Florida earn a median of about $84,190 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $67,970 for the lowest 10% to over $120,330 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire psychiatric nurses in Florida?
Employers hiring psychiatric nurses in Florida right now include Brave Health, Ally Psychiatry, and Cordial health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's density of large nonprofit hospital systems, for-profit behavioral health chains, and state-contracted community mental health centers means hiring activity stays consistent across the year rather than peaking seasonally.
Which Florida cities have the most psychiatric nurse jobs?
Orlando, Jacksonville, and Florida have the most psychiatric nurse openings in Florida. Miami drives volume through its large academic medical centers and a high concentration of community behavioral health agencies serving a diverse urban population, while Tampa and Orlando generate consistent demand through major health systems with dedicated inpatient psychiatric units and outpatient programs tied to their broader hospital campuses.
Are there remote psychiatric nurse jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they are rare. About 57% of psychiatric nurse openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of most psychiatric nursing roles. The positions most likely to offer remote work are telepsychiatry triage coordination, utilization review, and care management roles where clinical assessment happens by phone or video rather than at the bedside.
How can I get hired as a psychiatric nurse in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate residency programs at large Florida health systems such as HCA Florida Healthcare and BayCare, which run structured behavioral health tracks specifically designed for nurses without prior psychiatric experience. Lateral moves from medical-surgical, emergency, or correctional nursing are viewed favorably because they demonstrate patient acuity management. Completing a psychiatric clinical rotation, obtaining BLS certification, and earning a Florida RN license before applying puts a new candidate ahead of most applicants in the pool.
Where can I find and apply to psychiatric nurse jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to psychiatric nurse jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current Florida openings across hospital systems, community mental health centers, and specialty behavioral health providers. Find roles that fit your experience level and location and apply directly through each listing.
