Candidates who understand energy industry communications or healthcare media relations have a clear edge locally. Building relationships with Houston-area PRSA chapter members and targeting in-house corporate communications teams at midsize energy and healthcare companies is the most direct path into the market.

Yes, though public relations work that involves media appearances, community events, or executive support is typically on-site. About 0% of public relations openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting flexibility mostly in content creation, digital communications, and media monitoring roles. Houston's large corporate and agency sector means hybrid arrangements are more common than fully remote positions.
How can I get a public relations job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is through communications coordinator or PR assistant roles at mid-size energy companies, healthcare systems like those within the Texas Medical Center, or local nonprofits, which regularly hire junior staff.
