Job Details
We're looking for a QA Engineer to own quality across our suite of connected applications, and the shared services that tie them together. You'll blend hands-on manual and exploratory testing with building and maintaining automated test suites (end-to-end, integration, and component), acting as the last line of defense before our software reaches customers. A key part of the role is testing across application boundaries — validating navigation, shared authentication, data hand-offs, and micro-frontend integrations so that customers moving between apps get a seamless experience. You'll own integrating automated tests into our CI/CD pipeline as reliable quality gates and partner with product and engineering to build testability in from the start.
The ideal candidate has 3+ years in a QA role testing web applications, with a proven track record across both manual and automated testing using modern frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Selenium) and unit/component tooling (e.g., Jest, Vitest). You bring a strong grasp of test design and risk-based regression strategy, comfort testing SPAs and REST APIs, and enough JavaScript/TypeScript to write and debug test code. Experience with React, Vite, monorepos, micro-frontend architectures, CI/CD (e.g., GitHub Actions), accessibility, and API mocking (e.g., MSW) is a plus. Above all, you have a user-focused mindset — catching problems before customers do and giving the team the confidence to ship quickly.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, quality engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience required.
- 2+ years of experience in quality engineering, software testing, test automation, quality assurance, or a related field required.
- Certification in software testing, quality engineering, test automation preferred.

Quality Assurance Intern Jobs in District of Columbia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a quality assurance intern in District of Columbia?
The most direct path is enrolling in a bachelor's program in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field and applying to internship programs while still in school. District of Columbia employers, especially federal contractors, strongly prefer candidates from universities in the metro area such as Georgetown, George Washington University, American University, and Howard University. No state-issued license is required for QA intern roles, but a federal security clearance eligibility and coursework in quality or testing methodologies significantly strengthen your candidacy.
Which companies hire quality assurance interns in District of Columbia?
Companies currently hiring quality assurance interns in District of Columbia include Guidehouse, Parsons, and Cayuse Holdings, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The District's federal contracting ecosystem means large defense and technology firms make up a substantial share of QA intern openings, often tied to government agency clients.
Which District of Columbia cities have the most quality assurance intern jobs?
The cities with the most quality assurance intern openings in District of Columbia are Washington and Pentagon. The concentration in Washington D.C. itself reflects the density of federal agencies, defense contractors, and technology firms headquartered or operating there, while nearby areas like Tysons Corner and Bethesda draw openings tied to the same contracting ecosystem spilling across the regional metro.
Are there remote quality assurance intern jobs in District of Columbia?
Yes, and more than many internship fields, since much QA work involving software testing and documentation can be done remotely. About 56% of quality assurance intern openings tied to District of Columbia are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, though roles requiring access to classified systems or secure facilities will always be on-site. Software testing, test case writing, and compliance documentation are the sub-areas most likely to offer remote or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a quality assurance intern in District of Columbia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is applying to structured internship programs run by large District of Columbia federal contractors such as Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, and SAIC, which recruit undergraduate students directly from area universities with little prior professional experience required. Building a portfolio of personal software testing projects or contributing to open-source testing efforts on GitHub demonstrates practical skills to hiring managers. Lateral entry from adjacent roles like technical support, data entry, or IT helpdesk is also common, and earning an ISTQB Foundation certification gives candidates a concrete credential that stands out in District of Columbia's credential-conscious federal market.
Where can I find and apply to quality assurance intern jobs in District of Columbia?
You can find and apply to quality assurance intern jobs in District of Columbia on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the District. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and availability, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
