- Analytical testing: Perform routine and complex chemical testing of raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, stability samples, and process-related materials using approved procedures, compendial methods, and validated analytical methods.
- Instrumentation: Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments such as HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, FTIR, dissolution, Karl Fischer, pH, conductivity, and other applicable analytical equipment.
- Method lifecycle support: Support analytical method transfer, verification, validation, optimization, and continuous improvement; draft or revise protocols, reports, specifications, and test methods as assigned.
- Data review: Review analytical data, calculations, chromatograms, laboratory notebooks, worksheets, and electronic records for accuracy, completeness, compliance, and conformance to specifications.
- Laboratory investigations: Lead or support investigations of atypical, out-of-specification, out-of-trend, and laboratory-error results; document scientifically sound root-cause assessments and support corrective and preventive actions.
- Stability and release support: Execute testing according to approved release and stability schedules, evaluate results against established acceptance criteria, and promptly communicate issues that may affect product disposition or timelines.
- Documentation and data integrity: Complete records contemporaneously and accurately in accordance with CGMP, ALCOA+ principles, laboratory procedures, and applicable electronic data systems.
- Equipment and laboratory controls: Ensure instruments are calibrated, qualified, and maintained; manage standards, reagents, columns, and laboratory supplies in accordance with approved requirements.
- Technical leadership: Provide technical guidance and training to QC analysts and chemists, promote consistent laboratory practices, and serve as a subject-matter resource for analytical methods and instrumentation.
- Compliance and collaboration: Maintain inspection readiness, participate in audits and regulatory inspections, and collaborate with Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Validation, Engineering, and other functions to resolve technical issues and support laboratory priorities.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related scientific discipline; an advanced degree is a plus.
- Six or more years of progressive analytical laboratory experience, including at least 6 years in a CGMP-regulated pharmaceutical, or related environment.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques, including HPLC and one or more of GC, UV-Vis, FTIR, dissolution, Karl Fischer, pH, or conductivity testing.
- Experience with compendial testing and analytical method transfer, verification, validation, troubleshooting, or optimization.
- Working knowledge of CGMP, USP or other applicable compendia, FDA expectations, data-integrity requirements, laboratory safety, and GDP.
- Experience investigating atypical, out-of-specification, and out-of-trend results and supporting scientifically sound root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Proficiency with laboratory information management systems, chromatography data systems, electronic document systems, and Microsoft Office applications preferred.
