Quantitative Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a quantitative in Virginia?
Most quantitative roles in Virginia require at minimum a bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science, or finance, with many employers preferring a master's or PhD for research-focused positions. Virginia does not issue a state license for quantitative analysts. Employers in defense and federal contracting additionally require candidates to be eligible for a security clearance, which is a practical credential that shapes hiring across Northern Virginia in particular.
Which companies hire quantitatives in Virginia?
Virginia quantitative roles are posted by Capital One, Freddie Mac, and PNC Financial Services and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Northern Virginia's density of defense contractors and financial firms headquartered near Washington, D.C. makes it one of the most active corridors for quantitative hiring in the country.
Which Virginia cities have the most quantitative jobs?
McLean, Arlington, and Tysons Corner account for the largest share of quantitative openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia cities like McLean, Tysons, and Arlington are driven by financial services headquarters and federal consulting firms, Richmond reflects Capital One's large quant and analytics presence, and Hampton Roads activity is tied to Navy and defense research installations that run quantitative modeling operations.
Are there remote quantitative jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 20% of quantitative openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based and computational nature of the work. Research roles at financial firms tend to offer the most location flexibility, while positions at defense contractors with classified components typically require on-site or cleared-facility work.
How can I get hired as a quantitative in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a quantitative internship or rotational analyst program at one of Virginia's large financial or consulting employers. Capital One in Richmond runs structured analyst programs that accept candidates with strong academic backgrounds but limited professional experience. For defense-oriented quant roles in Northern Virginia, entry often comes through junior data scientist or operations research analyst positions that serve as direct feeders, and obtaining a security clearance eligibility early gives candidates a concrete edge in that market.
Where can I find and apply to quantitative jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to quantitative jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings across industries and metro areas. Search the roles that match your background and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit your situation.
