Radiation Therapist Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a radiation therapist in Pennsylvania?
You must hold an active license issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine to practice as a radiation therapist in the state. The path begins with completing an accredited radiation therapy program, which leads to an associate or bachelor's degree, followed by passing the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification exam in radiation therapy. Pennsylvania requires this ARRT credential as part of the licensure application before you can work clinically.
How much do radiation therapists make in Pennsylvania?
Radiation therapists in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $100,540 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,390 for the lowest 10% to over $122,690 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire radiation therapists in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring radiation therapists in Pennsylvania right now include WellSpan Health, UPMC, and Geisinger, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of large academic medical systems and NCI-designated cancer centers means many of these employers run full radiation oncology departments with ongoing staffing needs.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most radiation therapist jobs?
York, Hershey, and Pittsburgh have the most radiation therapist openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia leads because of its dense cluster of academic medical centers and NCI-designated cancer programs, while Pittsburgh's market is driven largely by UPMC's expansive oncology network, and smaller metros like the Lehigh Valley and Harrisburg are supported by regional health systems with dedicated cancer centers.
Are there remote radiation therapist jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, but they are rare. Radiation therapy is a hands-on clinical role that requires direct patient contact and operation of treatment equipment, so the vast majority of positions are fully on-site. About 0% of radiation therapist openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to cover administrative, dosimetry review, or quality assurance functions rather than direct patient treatment.
How can I get hired as a radiation therapist in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to new-graduate positions at large Pennsylvania health systems, several of which run structured clinical orientation programs for recent graduates. UPMC and Penn Medicine periodically post entry-level radiation therapist roles designed for ARRT-eligible candidates who have completed their clinical hours but have not yet accumulated independent work experience. Holding your Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine license and ARRT certification before you apply removes the most common hiring barrier, and candidates who completed clinical rotations at Pennsylvania facilities have a clear advantage when referencing local equipment and workflows.
Where can I find and apply to radiation therapist jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to radiation therapist jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current Pennsylvania openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to each position through the listing.
