Pediatric Physician Assistant Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pediatric physician assistant in Pennsylvania?
To work as a pediatric physician assistant in Pennsylvania, you must graduate from an accredited PA program and pass the PANCE exam administered by NCCPA, then apply for licensure through the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine or the State Board of Osteopathic Medicine, depending on your supervising physician's credential. Pennsylvania also requires you to have a written collaboration agreement with a supervising physician before practicing, which is typically arranged with your employer before your start date.
How much do pediatric physician assistants make in Pennsylvania?
Pediatric physician assistants in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $127,070 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $99,050 for the lowest 10% to over $158,690 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire pediatric physician assistants in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring pediatric physician assistants in Pennsylvania right now include Penn State Health, Geisinger, and SUMA HOME CARE, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of large academic health systems and dedicated children's hospitals means most openings are with established institutions that hire continuously rather than seasonally.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most pediatric physician assistant jobs?
Hershey, Danville, and Glen Mills are the Pennsylvania cities with the most pediatric physician assistant openings. Philadelphia leads because of its dense cluster of academic medical centers and the presence of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, while Pittsburgh's volume is driven by UPMC's extensive pediatric network, and smaller markets like Hershey and Allentown reflect the regional campuses of Penn State Health and Lehigh Valley Health Network.
Are there remote pediatric physician assistant jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, but they're rare. Pediatric physician assistant work is primarily hands-on clinical care that requires in-person patient contact, so most openings require on-site presence. About 17% of pediatric physician assistant openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to be in telehealth pediatric triage, care coordination, or clinical documentation roles rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a pediatric physician assistant in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a new-graduate or postgraduate PA residency program, and Pennsylvania has several strong options: Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and UPMC both run pediatric-focused PA residency or fellowship programs that are designed for new graduates without prior pediatric experience. Completing pediatric clinical rotations during your PA program at a Pennsylvania institution also helps, and starting in a pediatric urgent care or inpatient hospitalist role can serve as a bridge into subspecialty pediatric positions.
Where can I find and apply to pediatric physician assistant jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to pediatric physician assistant jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find the roles that fit your experience and location preference and apply directly through the listings.
