Radiation Therapist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a radiation therapist in Texas?
You must earn a license from the Texas Medical Board's Medical Radiologic Technology program, which requires completing an accredited radiation therapy program and passing the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists exam. Texas accredited programs are offered at institutions including Tarrant County College and UT MD Anderson. After passing the ARRT exam, you apply to the Texas Medical Board for your Radiologic Technologist certification before practicing independently.
How much do radiation therapists make in Texas?
Radiation therapists in Texas earn a median of about $105,770 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $88,840 for the lowest 10% to over $134,320 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire radiation therapists in Texas?
Employers hiring radiation therapists in Texas right now include Houston Methodist, The University of Texas Medical Branch, and CHRISTUS Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's high concentration of freestanding cancer centers and large academic medical systems means hiring is relatively consistent throughout the year compared with most states.
Which Texas cities have the most radiation therapist jobs?
Houston, League City, and Richardson have the most radiation therapist openings in Texas. Houston leads because of the Texas Medical Center's density of cancer treatment facilities, including MD Anderson, while Dallas and San Antonio reflect the large hospital networks and regional cancer programs those metros support across their suburban service areas.
Are there remote radiation therapist jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Radiation therapy requires hands-on patient positioning and machine operation, so the role is inherently on-site. About 0% of radiation therapist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in dosimetry review, quality assurance, or administrative oncology coordination rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a radiation therapist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to new-graduate or residency positions at large Texas cancer centers such as MD Anderson or Baylor Scott and White, which run structured onboarding programs for recent graduates. Candidates who hold a current Texas Medical Board license and ARRT certification stand out immediately. Radiation therapy assistants and dosimetry aide roles at Texas outpatient clinics are also common lateral starting points that build clinical exposure before moving into full therapist positions.
Where can I find and apply to radiation therapist jobs in Texas?
