The Deputy Chief Engineer – Avionics and Electronics Lead serves in a critical role leading development of Orion Space Solutions (OSS) products and programs. This is a builder’s leadership role: you will spend significant time in architecture and avionics design while guiding electronics engineers in the design, test, and verification of complex electronic systems. You will own the technical direction of all spacecraft electronics and be accountable for their design excellence, integration, and verification from requirements through flight.
- Lead and oversee development of complex space vehicle avionics architecture encompassing command and data handling (C&DH), payload processing, digital communications, electrical power subsystem (EPS), and radio-frequency (RF) communication circuits.
- Lead and mentor OSS staff while contributing directly, and hands-on, to the avionics designs.
- Hold regular technical interchanges with development staff to drive accountability for delivery against cost and schedule targets with a high level of technical excellence.
- Lead and organize spacecraft avionics and electronics design reviews at the architecture and implementation levels, ensuring designs meet customer requirements. Chair reviews, track and drive review metrics, and embed yourself in the design team. Work in close collaboration with the Chief Engineer and other engineering leaders across OSS.
- Lead, organize, and develop design documentation covering space vehicle architecture, module designs, test plans, and verification and validation (V&V) methods.
- You will contribute to the development of avionics quality-assurance processes at OSS, working with the other engineering authorities: the Senior Director of Engineering, the Technical Director, and the Electrical Engineering Lead.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree or higher, in electrical or computer engineering field, plus 8-10 years, MS plus 6-8 years, or PhD plus 3-5 years of professional experience in engineering for high-reliability space and aerospace applications.
- Extensive experience designing space and aerospace electronics for high-reliability applications.
- Experience across all phases of development, from requirements definition through sustainment.
- Experience leading avionics and electronics development teams as a technical lead.
- Experience with aerospace requirements management tools (DOORS, Jama, or similar).
- Experience with printed circuit board (PCB) design tools such as KiCad, Altium Designer, or similar.
- Experience developing electronics designs that meet high-reliability flight standards (NASA GEVS, SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, DO-254).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
Preferred
- Experience developing and implementing architectures for a variety of space customers.
- Experience designing complex embedded systems using System-on-Chip (SoC) or FPGA devices.
- Experience with FPGA design and verification using VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
- Experience with bare-metal or RTOS firmware development for microcontrollers.

Tips for Your Remote Electronics Technician Job Search
List certifications before work history
Electronics technician job postings screen heavily on credentials. Put your CET, CFOT, or IPC certifications in a dedicated section above your work history so hiring managers spot them before reading further. A buried certification is a missed filter.
Quantify repair turnaround and uptime contributions
Generic bullet points like 'repaired circuit boards' get skipped. Swap them for output-focused language: how many units you tested per shift, what fault detection rate you maintained, or how your troubleshooting reduced equipment downtime on a production line.
Target postings that list specific test equipment
When a posting names oscilloscopes, signal generators, or spectrum analyzers you have used hands-on, apply immediately. Roles listing equipment you know are far stronger fits than generic openings, and your cover note can reference that exact instrument by name.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists electronics technician openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a bench troubleshooting walkthrough
Most technical interviews for electronics technician roles include a fault-diagnosis scenario. Practice narrating your systematic approach out loud: how you isolate a section, which measurements you take first, and how you decide between component-level repair and board swap.
Negotiate shift differential and tool allowances
Electronics technician offers often include variable elements beyond base pay, including shift differentials for second or third shift and tool or PPE stipends. Ask about these line items directly before accepting, since they can materially change the value of two otherwise similar offers.
Remote Electronics Technician Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote electronics technician job?
Target companies that already run distributed teams, since they hire remotely by default and know how to onboard someone they never meet in person. Remote electronics technician employers screen hard for self-direction and clear written communication on top of the core skills, so show evidence you can own work without someone over your shoulder. Apply to the openings above that match your experience.
Which companies hire remote electronics technicians?
Employers currently hiring remote electronics technicians include Lake Superior Consulting, Harley Ellis Devereaux, and Plug Power, per current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Remote-first firms and large companies running distributed teams post the most remote electronics technician roles.
Can you get a remote electronics technician job with no experience?
Yes, but it is harder than an on-site role, because remote work expects you to operate independently from the start. Entry-level remote electronics technician openings do exist, especially at remote-first companies, and a portfolio of real work helps more than a long resume. Applying broadly to the roles that fit improves your odds.
Do you need a degree for remote electronics technician jobs?
Not always. Many employers hire remote electronics technicians on demonstrated skills and prior work rather than a specific degree, though some larger companies still prefer one. Showing relevant results matters more than a credential for most remote electronics technician roles.
Which industries hire the most remote electronics technicians?
The sectors hiring the most remote electronics technicians are Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Manufacturing, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors run distributed teams and hire electronics technicians remotely most consistently.
