Tips for Your Remote Financial Planning Job Search
Tailor your resume to each firm type
A wirehouse, RIA, and insurance firm each prioritize different experience. Highlight AUM managed and client retention for RIAs, product sales metrics for insurance roles, and holistic planning case studies for fee-only firms. Generic resumes get filtered out fast.
List your licenses prominently
Series 65, Series 7, CFP, and ChFC designations belong near your name at the top, not buried in a skills section. Recruiters scan for these before reading anything else, so put them where they're impossible to miss.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists financial planning openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target niche planning specializations strategically
If your experience leans toward estate planning, executive compensation, or small-business owner planning, filter for roles in those verticals. Specialists who match a firm's client base command stronger offers than generalists applying broadly.
Prepare case studies before every interview
Interviewers at planning firms routinely ask you to walk through a client scenario from discovery to recommendation. Have two or three de-identified cases ready that show your planning process, not just the outcome, covering different client life stages.
Negotiate the full compensation package
Base, payout grid, trailing commissions, and technology stipends all vary widely across financial planning roles. Understand which revenue you'd own versus what belongs to the firm before accepting, and ask specifically about the grid tier you'd start on.
Remote Financial Planning Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote financial planning job?
Target companies that already run distributed teams, since they hire remotely by default and know how to onboard someone they never meet in person. Remote financial planning employers screen hard for self-direction and clear written communication on top of the core skills, so show evidence you can own work without someone over your shoulder. Apply to the openings above that match your experience.
Which companies hire remote financial plannings?
Companies hiring remote financial plannings include CVS Health, Apptegy, and Herself Health, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Remote-first firms and large companies running distributed teams post the most remote financial planning roles.
Can you get a remote financial planning job with no experience?
Yes, but it is harder than an on-site role, because remote work expects you to operate independently from the start. Entry-level remote financial planning openings do exist, especially at remote-first companies, and a portfolio of real work helps more than a long resume. Applying broadly to the roles that fit improves your odds.
Do you need a degree for remote financial planning jobs?
Not always. Many employers hire remote financial plannings on demonstrated skills and prior work rather than a specific degree, though some larger companies still prefer one. Showing relevant results matters more than a credential for most remote financial planning roles.
Which industries hire the most remote financial plannings?
Remote financial planning roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Technology & Software, and Insurance, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors run distributed teams and hire financial plannings remotely most consistently.
