Meet Domaine, the world's largest independent Shopify design and development partner, formed by the union of Half Helix and Tomorrow. We are a team of commerce experts dedicated to creating, building, and growing beloved brands. As pioneers and not just participants in our industry, we are inspired to write, break, and re-write the rules for a new generation of commerce.
We're seeking a Technical SEO Specialist to support and scale Domaine's SEO practice. This role reports directly to the SEO Director and works closely with Strategy, Engineering, Design, and Content teams. This is a contract role with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week to start, with the opportunity to scale hours based on business and client needs.
This role is hands-on technical. You'll work with both on on-page technical work and replatforming and migration projects — from pre-migration audits and URL mapping through redirect strategy, post-launch QA, and performance recovery. While strong fundamentals across on-page SEO and content strategy are expected, the primary emphasis is on technical SEO execution and protecting (or accelerating) organic performance through change.
Responsibilities
Migrations & Replatforming
- Lead the SEO workstream on site migrations: replatforming, domain changes, URL restructures, IA overhauls, design system rollouts, and CMS/PIM transitions
- Run pre-migration baselines: full crawls, log file analysis, indexable page inventories, top-traffic and top-revenue page snapshots, backlink profile capture
- Build and QA redirect maps (1:1 where possible, intent-matched where not), partnering with engineering on implementation and edge cases (parameters, faceted URLs, pagination, locale paths)
- Author migration runbooks with risk assessments, go/no-go checklists, staging QA protocols, and rollback criteria
- Lead post-launch validation: indexation monitoring, redirect health, render parity, schema parity, internal link integrity, Core Web Vitals regression checks
- Diagnose and recover traffic in the event of post-migration drops; build the recovery roadmap
Technical SEO Foundations
- Conduct technical audits across crawlability, indexability, rendering, site architecture, internal linking, canonicalization, and structured data
- Create presentations with audit data to review the findings with clients
- Diagnose JavaScript rendering issues (CSR vs SSR vs SSG, hydration, lazy-loaded content) and partner with engineering on fixes
- Own Core Web Vitals strategy in partnership with engineering — LCP, INP, CLS — including diagnosis, prioritization, and verification
- Implement and validate Schema.org JSON-LD across product, collection, article, FAQ, breadcrumb, and organization types
- Manage XML sitemaps, LLM.txt, robots.txt, hreflang, canonical strategy, and pagination handling
- Run log file analysis to understand crawl behavior and bot allocation
GEO Audit & Strategy Implementation
- Review agentic AI Readiness audits and prioritize fixes and implementation
- Understand GEO basics and how to implement GEO improvement strategies
- Create Query Fan Out strategies, strengthen Entity analysis and optimization, audit and diagnose AI visibility issues
- Implement AI visibility strategies to improve finability in various LLM’s
- Use Claude and other AI platforms to help improve speed of delivery and to enhance client strategies
Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Track rankings, traffic, indexation, and revenue impact of technical work; communicate clear, prioritized insights to clients and internal teams
- Build dashboards and reports with GSC, GA4, Looker Studio, and SEO platforms
- Stay current on algorithm updates, rendering changes, and emerging discovery surfaces (AI Overviews, AI assistants, GEO)
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner with engineering throughout discovery, build, QA, and launch to ensure SEO requirements are scoped, built, and validated
- Translate technical SEO requirements into engineering tickets with clear acceptance criteria
- Educate internal teams (Strategy, Design, Engineering, Content) on technical SEO fundamentals and migration best practices
Domaine-Owned SEO
- Support technical SEO strategy for domaineworldwide.com
- Performance monitoring, indexation health, and technical recommendations
Skills
Required
- 4+ years of technical SEO experience, with demonstrated ownership of at least two complex site migrations or replatforms end-to-end
- Deep working knowledge of crawlability, indexability, rendering (CSR/SSR/SSG), canonicalization, hreflang, schema markup, and Core Web Vitals
- Proficiency with technical SEO tooling: Screaming Frog, Sitebulb, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, log file analyzers (e.g., Screaming Frog Log File Analyzer)
- Comfort with redirect logic and ability to author and QA large redirect maps (regex-based and 1:1)
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — enough to read code, diagnose rendering issues, and write precise engineering tickets
- Ability to communicate technical issues and tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, build-and-scale environment
Strongly Preferred
- Experience working with ecommerce brands
- Shopify experience — collection/product URL handling, theme rendering, app conflicts, locale routing, headless setups (Hydrogen)
- Experience with headless or composable commerce migrations
- Familiarity with edge/CDN-level redirect handling (Cloudflare Workers, Vercel, Netlify)
Nice to Have
- Exposure to AI-powered discovery and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)
- Experience with international SEO (multi-region, multi-language sites)
- Experience collaborating with writers, agencies, and cross-functional partners
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Technically deep — excited by the puzzle of large, messy migrations and the discipline of getting them right
- Strong communicator who can partner effectively with Engineering, Strategy, and Design
- Curious, proactive, and motivated to help build and shape a growing SEO practice
- Calm under pressure, especially during launch windows
- Passionate about staying ahead of SEO, technical web standards, and discovery trends
Perks & Benefits
- Competitive Healthcare with Dental & Vision
- Retirement savings plan with employer matching
- Competitive PTO policy with paid time off at end of year
- Flexible working schedule
- Remote-first culture
- Home office stipend
- Apple gear
- Continued education and personal development opportunities

Tips for Your Remote Seo Specialist Job Search
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote seo specialist openings from across the U.S. in one place, so you can find roles that match your skills and apply directly. Early applicants consistently get more attention before a posting gets saturated.
Build a portfolio that shows organic results
Remote hiring managers can't watch you work, so your portfolio carries the weight. Document campaigns with before-and-after screenshots from Google Search Console, showing keyword rankings, organic traffic trends, and the specific changes you made to drive them.
Demonstrate async communication skills clearly
Remote seo teams run on written handoffs, Slack threads, and shared dashboards rather than hallway conversations. In your application and interviews, show you can write a clear, concise brief or update that a distributed team can act on without a follow-up call.
Signal fluency with remote seo toolstacks
List the specific platforms you use daily, including Google Search Console, Ahrefs, Semrush, Screaming Frog, and any CMS or analytics stack like GA4. Remote employers move fast and need to know you can contribute without onboarding overhead.
Remote Seo Specialist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote seo specialist job?
Focus your search on remote-first companies and distributed marketing teams, where seo specialists are expected to manage projects independently without daily in-person check-ins. Remote employers screen for strong written communication, self-direction, and hands-on proficiency with tools like Google Search Console, Ahrefs, or Semrush. A portfolio showing real organic growth results gives you a clear edge over candidates who can only describe their process.
Which companies hire remote seo specialists?
Employers currently hiring remote seo specialists include SerpApi, Tinuiti, and Optimum7, per current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Remote seo specialist roles tend to concentrate at remote-first SaaS companies, e-commerce brands, digital agencies, and content publishers that rely on organic search as a core acquisition channel.
Can you get a remote seo specialist job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level roles are harder to land because employers expect you to work independently from day one without on-site mentorship. Your best path in is building a portfolio through freelance projects, a personal site you've grown from scratch, or documented volunteer work. Remote-first content startups and small e-commerce brands are the most likely to hire junior seo specialists remotely when you can show real results.
Do you need a degree for remote seo specialist jobs?
Not always. Remote employers hiring seo specialists weigh demonstrated skills, a portfolio showing organic traffic growth, and proficiency with industry tools far more heavily than a specific degree. Candidates who can show measurable results, whether through freelance work, a personal site, or prior in-house campaigns, consistently compete with and win over degreed applicants who lack hands-on evidence.
