Job Summary
As the largest online distributor of restaurant supplies and equipment, WebstaurantStore offers a catalog of more than 430,000 products supported by fast, reliable shipping. Nearly all our technological design, development, and system management are handled in-house, allowing us to build custom, innovative solutions in a rapidly evolving e-commerce landscape.
As we continue to grow, we are seeking an Infrastructure Engineer focused on server performance and automated workflows to support our on-premises infrastructure and automate deployments of physical and virtualized workloads. In this role, you will design and build high-performance computing solutions that power AI workloads, web apps, and other resource-intensive business operations, using methodologies such as Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps to implement self-service and automation.
This role is primarily focused on on-premises infrastructure and does not focus on cloud administration.
Responsibilities
- Administer and optimize physical servers (Dell), VMware vSphere/ESXi virtual infrastructure (vCenter HA), SQL Server environments, GPU-accelerated AI and 3D render servers.
- Own infrastructure performance tuning across compute encompassing both physical and virtualization layers to improve reliability, efficiency, and scalability.
- Proactively identify bottlenecks, capacity constraints, and performance risks using monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
- Investigate physical server issues end to end, perform root cause analysis, and determine the most appropriate corrective solution.
- Manage physical and virtual infrastructure and support partner teams including DBRE, Security, SRE, Media, and Automated Warehouses.
- Manage and maintain code repositories, keeping configurations up to date in the code base, and support code review processes.
- Support server lifecycle management activities including provisioning, configuration, patching, upgrades, hardware refreshes, and decommissioning.
- Work with the Infrastructure Operations Dept to install and rack server equipment in our datacenters. Actively participate in datacenter, rack, power, space and installation planning.
- Perform hardware diagnostics, firmware and BIOS updates, RAID configuration, driver management, and out-of-band administration using tools such as iDRAC or equivalent technologies.
- Participate in disaster recovery and business continuity efforts, including failover testing, backup and recovery validation, and restoration readiness.
- Contribute to infrastructure projects such as migrations, platform rollouts, performance improvement initiatives, and hardware modernization efforts.
- Understanding and ability to navigate Windows Server and Linux-based environments, including RHEL, Ubuntu, and Rocky Linux.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to solve complex infrastructure problems, recommend improvements, and strengthen long-term system health.
Physical Requirements
- Work is performed while sitting/standing and interfacing with a personal computer.
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
- Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
- Requires occasional bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
- Requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 50lbs.
Remote Work Qualifications
- Access to a reliable and secure high-speed internet connection. Cable or fiber internet connections (at least 75mbps download/10mbps upload) are preferred, as satellite connections often cannot support the technologies used to perform day-to-day tasks.
- Access to a home router and modem.
- A dedicated home office space that is noise- and distraction-free. The space should have strong wireless connection or a wired Ethernet connection (wired connection is preferred, if possible).
- A valid, physical address (apartment, suite, etc.). PO Boxes are not supported, as a physical address is required for you to receive your computer equipment.
- The desire and ability to work and communicate with other team members via chat, webcam, etc.

Experience
- 5+ years of experience in systems, infrastructure engineering, or related fields.
- Experience supporting on-premises or co-located data center infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise server hardware and virtual infrastructure (VMware vSphere/ESXi; vCenter HA).
- Experience supporting Windows Server and Linux environments, including RHEL, Ubuntu, and Rocky Linux.
- Familiarity with SQL Server infrastructure as well as NVIDIA GPU-based server and workstation hardware.
- Understanding of performance tuning, capacity planning, and observability.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex issues, perform root cause analysis, and support disaster recovery efforts.
- Familiarity with hardware administration, RAID configuration, driver management, lifecycle management, and remote management tools such as iDRAC.
