Research And Development Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a research and development professional in Texas?
Most research and development roles in Texas require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as chemistry, engineering, biology, or physics, with many senior positions expecting a master's degree or doctorate. Texas does not require a general R&D license, but specific sectors impose their own credentials: medical device and pharmaceutical R&D often requires compliance training, while professional engineers in Texas must hold a PE license issued by the Texas State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Which companies hire research and developments in Texas?
Employers hiring research and developments in Texas right now include Dallas Baptist University, NOV, and PepsiCo, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy majors, semiconductor manufacturers, aerospace contractors, and major academic medical centers means R&D hiring is active across a wide range of sectors year-round.
Which Texas cities have the most research and development jobs?
Houston, Austin, and College Station have the most research and development openings in Texas. Houston's dominance is driven by its energy and life sciences clusters, including the Texas Medical Center, while the Austin area's dense semiconductor and tech presence fuels strong hardware and software R&D demand, and Dallas-Fort Worth draws hiring through its aerospace, defense, and telecom industries.
Are there remote research and development jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based fields, since much research and development work involves laboratory equipment, prototyping, or on-site collaboration. About 0% of research and development openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the portion of roles focused on data analysis, regulatory writing, computational modeling, or project management rather than hands-on lab work.
How can I get hired as a research and development professional in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a formal internship or co-op program during your degree, as Texas institutions such as UT Austin, Texas A&M, and Rice University maintain strong industry pipelines into companies like Texas Instruments, Lockheed Martin, and Shell. Entry-level titles such as research associate, junior engineer, or lab technician are common starting points, and a strong undergraduate research portfolio or a graduate thesis on an applied topic gives candidates a meaningful edge over applicants without lab or project experience.
Where can I find and apply to research and development jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to research and development jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas employers across industries including energy, life sciences, aerospace, and semiconductors. Search the listings to find roles that match your specialty and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
