Risk Management Consultant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a risk management consultant in Texas?
The concrete path into risk management consulting in Texas starts with a bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field, followed by a recognized professional credential such as the Financial Risk Manager designation from GARP or the Professional Risk Manager credential from PRMIA. Texas does not require a state-issued license to practice as a risk management consultant, but CPAs working in this space must hold a Texas CPA license issued by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. Most employers expect a combination of education, certification, and practical industry experience.
How much do risk management consultants make in Texas?
Risk management consultants in Texas earn a median of about $103,760 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,250 for the lowest 10% to over $159,220 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire risk management consultants in Texas?
Employers hiring risk management consultants in Texas right now include Baker Tilly Canada, The Baldwin Group Colleague, and AIG, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's deep concentration of energy companies, regional banks, and large insurers means that both consulting firms and in-house risk teams post openings throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most risk management consultant jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth hold the most risk management consultant openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its massive energy and petrochemical sector, while Dallas draws demand from financial services firms, corporate headquarters, and major consulting practices, and Austin's fast-growing technology and financial services industries have made it an increasingly active market for risk professionals.
Are there remote risk management consultant jobs in Texas?
Yes, and they are more common than in many other consulting specialties because much of the analytical and advisory work can be done off-site. About 24% of risk management consultant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of the role. Positions focused on enterprise risk frameworks, quantitative modeling, and policy development tend to be the most remote-friendly.
How can I get hired as a risk management consultant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a risk analyst or internal audit associate role at one of Texas's large financial institutions, insurance carriers, or energy companies, where structured rotational or associate programs are common. Firms such as large regional banks headquartered in Dallas or Houston and major insurers like USAA in San Antonio often recruit recent graduates into risk operations and compliance analyst positions as a first step. Pursuing the FRM or a related credential while in an adjacent role in audit, compliance, or financial analysis signals commitment and gives candidates a concrete edge in Texas-specific hiring conversations.
Where can I find and apply to risk management consultant jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to risk management consultant jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the Texas market. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
