INTRODUCTION
Wofford College is seeking a Director of Business Services and Risk Management. The Director of Business Services and Risk Management provides leadership and oversight for the College’s procurement, vendor management, business services, and risk management functions. This position is responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures that support operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, effective risk mitigation, and exceptional service to the campus community. The Director oversees key vendor relationships, including food service and bookstore operations, manages the campus post office, and leads institutional efforts related to emergency preparedness and risk management best practices.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Business Services and Risk Management is a full-time, exempt position with a normal work schedule of 37.5 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages relationship between the College and food service and campus bookstore vendors, ensuring high standards and exemplary customer service to faculty, staff and students
- Develops, implements and monitors policies and procedures governing the College’s procurement process
- Reviews leasing and purchasing contracts, and presents them to appropriate Vice President for approval
- Supervise and manage the campus post office to ensure effective and efficient service to students, faculty and staff
- Leads the process for monitoring the College’s compliance with risk management policies, procedures and best practices in the industry
- Coordinates, as applicable, with the College's dedicated risk manager at EIIA insurance consortium and external legal counsel
- With the assistance and cooperation of other departments, facilitates compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Chairs the College’s emergency preparedness committee
- Communicates with, trains and builds relationships with department heads and buyers
- Proactively seeks to enhance knowledge of industry best practices and College processes to identify ways to reduce cost and increase efficiency
- Maintains and monitors compliance with the College’s travel and expense reimbursement and purchasing card policies
- Establishes and maintains internal website containing important procurement and risk management documents for use by the College community
- Maintains and develops vendor relationships for the College
- Assists co-workers and supervisors with other tasks and duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to implement and manage change within an organization
- Systems experience with accounting software, as well as advanced knowledge of computer applications, especially Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite products
- Strong business sense with proven ability to oversee projects and negotiate with external vendors
- Ability to work independently to address non-routine problems or challenges
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to advance ideas through to implementation
- Experience within higher education or non-profit environment and experience with Workday ERP system preferred
- Certified Purchasing Manager preferred
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree required, degree in a business-related field preferred
- 5-10 years experience in a related field, experience in higher education strongly preferred
