Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY:
As a Nursing Staffing Scheduler for our Float Pool, you'll be the strategic backbone of our nursing operations—orchestrating staffing solutions that keep our units running smoothly and our patients receiving exceptional care. You'll combine organizational excellence with real-time problem-solving to ensure the right nursing professionals are in the right place at the right time.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Proactively monitor shift-by-shift staffing needs and partner with central staffing RNs to secure necessary resources, executing daily deployment strategies that optimize unit coverage.
- Own the scheduling system end-to-end—maintaining accuracy, implementing changes, and ensuring the system reflects real-time staffing realities.
- Strategically assign professional and support staff to nursing units based on established staffing models, balancing unit needs with resource availability.
- Communicate staffing challenges to key stakeholders and collaborate on schedule adjustments that maintain operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Track call-ins and overtime in the electronic scheduling system with precision, ensuring accurate hour distribution and payroll accuracy.
- Quickly mobilize SRP personnel and reassign staff to cover absences, minimizing disruption to patient care.
- Maintain comprehensive records, logs, and files on all staffing activities; prepare both routine and special reports that provide actionable insights.
- Serve as the hub of the staffing office—managing communications, logging call-ins, supporting customers, answering phones, and coordinating shift assignments and cancellations with cost-conscious efficiency.
- Develop and analyze statistical reports, identifying trends and creating new reports that drive data-informed staffing decisions.
- Generate and distribute timely, accurate reports that support management decision-making.
- Prepare and maintain staffing worksheets that guide daily operations.
- Onboard new employees with clear information about hospital and department policies, setting them up for success from day one.
- Actively participate in required meetings, in-services, and professional development opportunities.
- Support the maintenance of accurate personnel data in the electronic database.
- Monitor and provide budget information for management review, supporting fiscal responsibility.
- Perform additional related duties as needed to support operational excellence.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
- One to three years of related staffing, scheduling or healthcare business experience required.
- Basic knowledge of nursing positions and understanding basic nursing staff patterns is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience with automated staffing and scheduling software preferred.
- Experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) required.
- Basic computer data entry skills with report development knowledge required.
- Must be highly organized and thrive in a high pace setting while meeting multiple deadlines.
- Excellent customer service skills.
