Sales Route Driver Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales route driver in Texas?
The clearest path to becoming a sales route driver in Texas starts with obtaining a Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) through the Texas Department of Public Safety, which requires passing a knowledge exam and a skills road test. Most employers also expect a clean driving record and a high school diploma or equivalent. Entry-level candidates often start with a Class B CDL, then build route sales experience through large distribution companies operating in Texas metros.
How much do sales route drivers make in Texas?
Sales route drivers in Texas earn a median of about $35,850 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $18,290 for the lowest 10% to over $60,020 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales route drivers in Texas?
Employers hiring sales route drivers in Texas right now include Alsco Uniforms and Ole Mexican Foods, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's size and dense metro population make it one of the more active distribution markets in the country, with consistent openings from both national beverage and snack brands and regional grocery distributors headquartered in cities like Dallas and Houston.
Which Texas cities have the most sales route driver jobs?
Dallas, Fort Worth, and Houston have the most sales route driver openings in Texas right now. Houston and Dallas drive the largest share of listings because both metros host major distribution hubs, national brand regional headquarters, and dense retail and foodservice networks that require consistent daily route coverage, while San Antonio's growing population and expanding commercial corridors have made it a steady secondary hiring market for DSD and beverage route roles.
Are there remote sales route driver jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of sales route driver openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which reflects the hands-on nature of the role: most positions require physical delivery, in-store merchandising, and direct customer interaction on a daily route. The portions of the job that can shift remote are typically administrative, such as order entry, account reporting, or territory planning tasks.
How can I get hired as a sales route driver in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to helper or driver assistant roles at large Texas distribution operations, where candidates ride along on established routes before taking over solo. Companies like McLane Company, based in Temple, Texas, and regional Coca-Cola bottlers run structured onboarding programs for new drivers. Holding a Class B CDL from the Texas Department of Public Safety gives candidates a concrete edge, and prior work in warehouse receiving, grocery stocking, or delivery driving translates directly into this role.
Where can I find and apply to sales route driver jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to sales route driver jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find roles that match your CDL class, territory preference, and product category, and apply directly to the ones that fit. No signup is required to search and apply.
