Sales Route Driver Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales route driver in Tennessee?
Most Tennessee employers require at minimum a valid Commercial Driver License issued through the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, with Class B covering straight-truck routes and Class A required for tractor-trailer distribution. Candidates complete a written knowledge test and a skills road test at a Tennessee Driver Services Center. Beyond the CDL, employers typically look for a high school diploma or GED and some background in sales, merchandising, or customer-facing delivery work.
Which companies hire sales route drivers in Tennessee?
Employers hiring sales route drivers in Tennessee right now include Vestis, WM, and CJ Schwan’s, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tennessee's dense network of food distribution hubs, particularly around Memphis and Nashville, means large regional and national distributors maintain steady driver headcount throughout the year.
Which Tennessee cities have the most sales route driver jobs?
Nashville, Knoxville, and Memphis have the most sales route driver openings in Tennessee. Nashville's rapid population and retail growth drives high volume for consumer goods and foodservice routes, Memphis functions as a major logistics gateway with concentrated distribution center activity, and Knoxville's manufacturing and wholesale base supports steady regional route demand.
Are there remote sales route driver jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're rare. Sales route driving is a fundamentally field-based role requiring physical delivery, in-store merchandising, and in-person customer relationship management, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 0% of sales route driver openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those typically involve inside route sales coordination or account management support rather than active delivery duties.
How can I get hired as a sales route driver in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a driver's helper, merchandiser, or warehouse selector role with a large Tennessee distributor, then moving into a route position once you have a CDL and on-the-job product knowledge. Companies like Sysco and McLane Company regularly hire entry-level warehouse and merchandising associates in Tennessee who transition into route sales. Earning a Class B CDL through a Tennessee community college program, such as those offered at Tennessee College of Applied Technology campuses, significantly strengthens your application even before your first route role.
Where can I find and apply to sales route driver jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to sales route driver jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the Tennessee market. Search the listings to find roles that match your CDL class, territory preference, and product experience, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
