What Employers Look For
The qualifications that appear most often in SAP developer jobs.
- Three or more years of hands-on ABAP programming and object-oriented ABAP development
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA implementation, migration, or support projects
- Proficiency in at least one functional area such as FI, CO, MM, SD, or HCM
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related technical field
- Familiarity with SAP Fiori, UI5, or SAP BTP for custom application development
- SAP-certified associate or professional credential in a relevant module or technology track
Tips for Your SAP Developer Job Search
Tailor your resume to SAP modules
List the specific SAP modules you've worked in, such as FI, CO, MM, SD, or HCM, rather than writing 'SAP experience' broadly. Recruiters filter by module, and a vague claim gets passed over before a human reads it.
Highlight your S/4HANA migration experience
Employers running ECC-to-S/4HANA conversions prioritize candidates who've touched a migration project. If you've done fit-gap analysis, data migration, or cutover planning, call that out explicitly in your work history section.
Get SAP-certified in your target track
SAP's official certification exams map directly to the modules employers hire for. Holding a current certification in your specialization, whether ABAP, SAP BTP, or SAP Integration Suite, signals you've kept pace with recent platform changes.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists sap developer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare for technical code-review rounds
Many sap developer interviews include a live ABAP code review or a take-home debugging exercise. Practice reading unfamiliar programs, tracing logic through function modules, and explaining performance tuning choices out loud before your first technical screen.
Negotiate using total compensation, not base alone
SAP project roles often include per-diem travel allowances, training budgets, and SAP certification reimbursements that vary widely by employer. Ask about those components before accepting, because they shift the real value of the offer significantly.
SAP Developer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most sap developers?
The companies hiring the most sap developers right now include BV Teck, Accenture Federal Services, and Data-Core System, with the largest share of openings in Texas, Pennsylvania, and District of Columbia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Large manufacturing conglomerates, Big Four consulting firms, and Fortune 500 companies running active S/4HANA rollouts consistently drive the highest volume of postings.
How many sap developer jobs are remote?
About 79% of sap developer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the platform's maturity in cloud-based delivery models. Development and integration work on SAP BTP and SAP Integration Suite tends to be the most remote-accessible, while on-site go-live support and data center cutover roles still typically require in-person presence.
How do you become a sap developer?
Start by learning ABAP programming through SAP's official learning portal, then complete a certification exam in your target module. Build practical experience through a junior support role, a consulting firm's SAP practice, or a self-hosted trial system. Gaining exposure to at least one full implementation lifecycle, from blueprint through go-live, is what separates entry-level candidates from hireable developers.
Can you get hired as a sap developer with little or no experience?
Yes, some employers hire junior sap developers who hold an SAP associate certification and can demonstrate hands-on work in a trial or sandbox environment. Consulting firms running graduate programs are the most consistent entry point. Focusing on one module deeply, building a portfolio of custom ABAP programs, and completing SAP's learning journeys on its official platform will strengthen an application with no professional experience behind it.
What does the sap developer interview process look like?
Most sap developer interviews run in three to four stages. The first is a recruiter screen covering your module background and project history. Next comes a technical round where you walk through ABAP code, discuss data dictionary objects, or solve a debugging scenario. A final round typically involves a business or functional stakeholder assessing your understanding of the process area the role supports.
Where can I find and apply to sap developer jobs?
You can find and apply to sap developer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your module background and experience level, then apply directly to each one that fits.
