Security Architect Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security architect in Ohio?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or information systems followed by several years in security engineering or analysis roles. Ohio has no state-issued license specifically for security architects, so employers rely on industry credentials: the CISSP is the most commonly required, followed by CISM and CCSP. Large Ohio employers in finance, healthcare, and defense typically expect both a relevant degree and at least one of these certifications before hiring at the architect level.
How much do security architects make in Ohio?
Security architects in Ohio earn a median of about $110,480 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $68,070 for the lowest 10% to over $171,450 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security architects in Ohio?
Employers hiring security architects in Ohio right now include Express, Accenture, and Hexion, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Ohio's concentration of large financial institutions, hospital networks, and defense contractors means demand is relatively stable and spread across multiple industries rather than dependent on any single sector.
Which Ohio cities have the most security architect jobs?
Columbus, Dublin, and Cincinnati have the most security architect openings in Ohio. Columbus drives the largest share thanks to its headquarters concentration in insurance, banking, and state government IT, while Cleveland's healthcare systems and Cincinnati's consumer goods and financial firms generate consistent demand in those metros.
Are there remote security architect jobs in Ohio?
Yes, and more than most technical fields. About 0% of security architect openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves policy design, architecture review, and stakeholder consulting rather than on-site infrastructure. The portions of the role most likely to remain fully remote are cloud architecture reviews, risk assessments, and vendor evaluations.
How can I get hired as a security architect in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into an associate security analyst or security operations center analyst role first, then building toward architecture over time. Large Ohio employers like Nationwide Insurance and Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center hire entry-level security analysts and often develop them internally. Earning a CompTIA Security+ or CompTIA CySA+ credential before applying strengthens a resume at that level. Lateral moves from network engineering or systems administration are also a common on-ramp, since that infrastructure background translates directly into architecture work.
Where can I find and apply to security architect jobs in Ohio?
