Security Engineer Jobs in Colorado Springs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a security engineer job in Colorado Springs?
Colorado Springs hiring is dominated by defense and government contracting, so candidates with a security clearance, even at the Secret level, move to the front of the line. Focus on contractors near Peterson Space Force Base, Schriever Space Force Base, Fort Carson, and NORAD, as well as the commercial cybersecurity firms and managed security service providers in the Powers Corridor. Certifications like CISSP, Security+, or CEH signal readiness to local hiring managers.
Which companies hire security engineers in Colorado Springs?
Companies currently hiring security engineers in Colorado Springs include L3Harris, AMERICAN SYSTEMS, and Booz Allen Hamilton, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. The local market is anchored by defense contractors and federal agency support firms, alongside a growing cluster of commercial tech and cybersecurity companies operating in the city's northeast business districts.
Are there remote security engineer jobs in Colorado Springs?
Yes, though availability varies: roles tied to classified systems, physical infrastructure, or on-site government contracts require in-person presence, while cloud security, application security, and risk and compliance positions are far more remote-friendly. About 27% of security engineer openings tied to Colorado Springs are remote or hybrid as of September 2026. Positions with commercial employers in the Powers Corridor tend to offer the most hybrid flexibility locally.
How can I get a security engineer job in Colorado Springs with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Colorado Springs is through a junior IT or help desk role at a defense contractor or government support firm, where employers often sponsor clearance investigations and promote from within once you demonstrate reliability. UCCS and Pikes Peak State College both produce candidates local employers recognize, and entry-level SOC analyst positions at managed security providers in the Powers Corridor frequently serve as a launchpad into engineering roles. Earning CompTIA Security+ before applying materially improves your odds with local government-adjacent employers.
Which industries hire the most security engineers in Colorado Springs?
Colorado Springs security engineer roles concentrate in Aerospace & Defense and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. The city's outsized military and space-defense presence means federal contracting alone accounts for a disproportionate share of openings compared to most comparably sized U.S. cities, pulling demand from commercial sectors as well.
