Security Engineer Jobs in Columbus: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a security engineer job in Columbus?
Focus your search on Columbus's three strongest hiring sectors: financial services firms clustered downtown, health system IT departments anchored by institutions like OhioHealth and Nationwide Children's, and defense and government contractors concentrated near Rickenbacker and the Polaris corridor. Candidates with cloud security experience, active clearances, or hands-on incident response skills stand out in this market. Applying directly through employer career portals and attending local security meetups in the Short North tech community also accelerates your search.
Which companies hire security engineers in Columbus?
Employers hiring security engineers in Columbus right now include JPMorganChase, BWE, and CBTS, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Columbus draws a mix of large financial institutions, regional health systems, state agency contractors, and mid-size SaaS companies, all of which maintain active security engineering teams.
Are there remote security engineer jobs in Columbus?
Yes, though availability varies by specialization: analytical and cloud-focused roles are far more remote-friendly than hands-on positions requiring physical access to on-site infrastructure. About 20% of security engineer openings tied to Columbus are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader trends in the role. Threat analysis, security operations center work, and cloud architecture roles in Columbus tend to offer the most location flexibility.
How can I get a security engineer job in Columbus with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Columbus is through IT support or network administration roles at one of the city's many regional banks, insurance firms, or health systems, then moving laterally into security. State agencies and defense contractors near Rickenbacker occasionally hire junior analysts with relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+ or CySA+. Building hands-on experience through Columbus-area CTF competitions or contributing to open-source security tools also helps candidates compete for entry-level openings locally.
Which industries hire the most security engineers in Columbus?
Columbus security engineer roles concentrate in Banking & Financial Services, Fintech, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Columbus's position as a Midwest financial hub, a major health system center, and a growing defense contracting market makes those sectors the primary and consistent drivers of local security engineering demand.
