Security Program Manager Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security program manager in Rhode Island?
Most security program managers in Rhode Island enter the role through a combination of a bachelor's degree in information security, cybersecurity, or a related field and several years of hands-on program or project management experience. Rhode Island does not require a state-issued license for this role, but employers consistently prioritize candidates holding recognized certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or PMP. Defense contractors and healthcare organizations in Providence and Cranston often prefer candidates with experience in federal compliance frameworks.
Which companies hire security program managers in Rhode Island?
Companies currently hiring security program managers in Rhode Island include Citizens and Jewish Collaborative Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Rhode Island's concentration of defense contractors, regional financial institutions, and large healthcare networks gives the state a relatively stable base of employers that maintain ongoing security program management functions.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most security program manager jobs?
The cities with the most security program manager openings in Rhode Island are Johnston and Providence. Providence dominates because it hosts the state's largest healthcare systems, financial services headquarters, and government-adjacent operations, while Cranston and Warwick attract openings tied to defense contractors and regional corporate offices that have established security programs requiring dedicated management.
How can I get hired as a security program manager in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a closely adjacent role such as IT project coordinator, security analyst, or compliance specialist, which are positions that Rhode Island healthcare systems like Lifespan and Brown University Health and defense-adjacent employers in Cranston actively hire at junior levels. Building toward a PMP or CompTIA Security Plus certification before applying strengthens candidacy considerably. Associate or junior program coordinator roles within Rhode Island state government agencies also serve as a proven bridge into full program management.
