Security Software Engineer Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security software engineer in Delaware?
Delaware does not require a state-issued license specifically for security software engineers, so the path runs through education and industry credentials rather than a licensing board. Most roles in Wilmington's financial sector and the state's defense-adjacent employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science or cybersecurity, plus recognized certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or CompTIA Security+. Building hands-on experience through internships at Delaware financial institutions or federal contractor sites strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
How much do security software engineers make in Delaware?
Security software engineers in Delaware earn a median of about $133,020 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $96,620 for the lowest 10% to over $174,390 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security software engineers in Delaware?
Delaware security software engineer roles are posted by JPMorganChase, CSC, and Target and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's concentration of corporate headquarters and financial institutions in the Wilmington corridor means many of the state's largest employers maintain in-house security engineering teams rather than relying entirely on outside vendors.
Which Delaware cities have the most security software engineer jobs?
Wilmington, Dover, and Newark account for the largest share of security software engineer openings in Delaware. Wilmington dominates because it is home to major bank headquarters and financial technology operations, Dover draws roles tied to state government agencies and defense-related contractors, and Newark benefits from its proximity to the University of Delaware and the technology firms clustered around it.
Are there remote security software engineer jobs in Delaware?
Yes, and more than most fields. Security software engineering is largely desk-based and code-driven, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 67% of security software engineer openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how broadly the discipline has shifted toward distributed teams. Application security, cloud security engineering, and security code review roles are the sub-specialties most frequently listed as fully remote.
How can I get hired as a security software engineer in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate security analyst or junior application security role at one of Delaware's large financial institutions, which regularly onboard new graduates and career changers. JPMorgan Chase and Sallie Mae both run technology associate programs that accept candidates without deep security experience, provided they show programming fundamentals and a foundational certification such as CompTIA Security+. A capstone project demonstrating secure code review or a bug-bounty finding also opens doors at Delaware's growing fintech and defense-adjacent employers.
Where can I find and apply to security software engineer jobs in Delaware?
You can find and apply to security software engineer jobs in Delaware on Migrate Mate, which lists current Delaware openings updated regularly. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit your background.
