Security Software Engineer Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security software engineer in Louisiana?
Louisiana does not require a state-issued license specifically for security software engineers, so the path runs through education and certification. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or software engineering from an institution such as LSU, Tulane, or the University of New Orleans. From there, candidates build credibility with industry certifications like CISSP or CompTIA Security+ and develop a portfolio of secure coding or vulnerability-remediation projects before applying.
How much do security software engineers make in Louisiana?
Security software engineers in Louisiana earn a median of about $102,800 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $66,350 for the lowest 10% to over $151,780 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security software engineers in Louisiana?
Louisiana security software engineer roles are posted by Allied Universal, In-Telecom, and Everon and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Louisiana's mix of energy, defense, and financial-services employers means openings tend to cluster around firms with large regulated-data environments and federal contracting obligations.
Which Louisiana cities have the most security software engineer jobs?
Baton Rouge, Slidell, and Metairie account for the largest share of security software engineer openings in Louisiana. New Orleans and Baton Rouge dominate because of their concentration of financial institutions, utility headquarters, and federal contractors, while any smaller metros on that list reflect the presence of a significant defense installation or regional healthcare system anchoring local tech hiring.
Are there remote security software engineer jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 8% of security software engineer openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based, code-and-review nature of the work. The most remote-eligible portions of the role are code auditing, threat modeling, and security tool integration, while positions involving classified systems or on-site infrastructure testing tend to require physical presence.
How can I get hired as a security software engineer in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a junior application security or software developer role at a Louisiana-based federal contractor or utility. Employers like Lockheed Martin and Entergy run associate and early-career engineering programs that accept candidates with a relevant degree but limited professional history. Building hands-on experience through capture-the-flag competitions, open-source security contributions, or a CompTIA Security+ certification significantly strengthens an entry-level application in the Louisiana market.
Where can I find and apply to security software engineer jobs in Louisiana?
You can find and apply to security software engineer jobs in Louisiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from Louisiana employers. Search the listings to find roles that match your skills and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
