Senior AI Software Engineer Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior ai software engineer in Missouri?
Senior ai software engineer roles in Missouri require no state-issued license, so the path runs through education and demonstrated experience. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or a related field, though a master's degree is increasingly common among competitive candidates. From there, engineers typically spend several years building production ML systems before reaching the senior level. Missouri employers in healthcare and financial services also value domain knowledge alongside technical depth.
How much do senior AI software engineers make in Missouri?
Senior AI software engineers in Missouri earn a median of about $126,120 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $72,570 for the lowest 10% to over $169,340 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior ai software engineers in Missouri?
Missouri senior ai software engineer roles are posted by H&R Block, CVS Health, and ALLO Communications and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Missouri's mix of large healthcare systems, defense contractors, and financial services firms creates consistent demand for senior AI engineers across multiple industries in the state.
Which Missouri cities have the most senior ai software engineer jobs?
Missouri, Kansas City, and Springfield account for the largest share of senior ai software engineer openings in Missouri. St. Louis drives the most volume, anchored by Boeing's defense technology operations, Centene's healthcare IT division, and a growing corridor of fintech and health-tech startups, while Kansas City's strong financial services and logistics sectors generate steady AI engineering demand and Columbia benefits from University of Missouri research activity attracting technology employers to the region.
Are there remote senior ai software engineer jobs in Missouri?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 83% of senior ai software engineer openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the desk-based and highly portable nature of AI and software engineering work. Model development, research engineering, and MLOps roles tend to be the most consistently remote, while positions involving on-site infrastructure, classified defense systems, or embedded hardware integration are more likely to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a senior ai software engineer in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate or junior machine learning engineer role that lets you build production experience before moving into senior positions. Missouri employers such as Boeing, Cerner, and Mastercard's Kansas City operations run internship and new-graduate programs that place candidates into AI-adjacent engineering teams. Starting in data engineering, backend software development, or analytics engineering at a Missouri company and transitioning internally is equally common. A strong GitHub portfolio demonstrating applied ML projects and a relevant cloud certification give candidates without formal experience a concrete edge.
Where can I find and apply to senior ai software engineer jobs in Missouri?
