INTRODUCTION

We are seeking a highly technical, customer-facing payments expert to operate at the intersection of Sales, Product, Engineering, and Customer Success. This role will support technical sales engagements, design payment architectures, advise customers and software platforms, and contribute real-world insights to our product roadmap. This individual will bring deep expertise in payments ecosystems—quickly assessing client environments across gateways, processors, PayFac or ISO models, merchant account structures, APIs, settlement, reconciliation, reporting, POS/ecommerce workflows, and more. You will guide customers through complex decisions, offering clear recommendations based on industry best practices and practical experience. This is a hybrid role combining technical depth with customer engagement—not a traditional sales position, nor a purely engineering function. Success requires the ability to translate complex payment architectures into actionable insights for both external clients and internal teams.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as the technical payments expert in sales and partner conversations
• Lead discovery sessions with merchants, SaaS platforms, franchises, and enterprise clients
• Analyze and map customer requirements across payment ecosystems (gateways, processors, PayFac models, APIs, billing flows, etc.)
• Design and present solution architectures, clearly explaining tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences
• Advise on integrations, processor selection, tokenization strategies, hardware needs, and operational workflows
• Collaborate with Sales to qualify opportunities, address technical objections, and improve conversion rates
• Partner with Product and Engineering to shape roadmap priorities and enhance payment capabilities
• Translate customer insights into product requirements, architecture recommendations, and internal playbooks
• Support onboarding and implementation for complex engagements
• Create technical documentation, solution diagrams, and sales enablement materials
• Stay current on industry trends, tools, and best practices in payments technology
• Provide cross-functional training to Sales, Customer Success, and Product teams

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years of experience in payments, fintech, merchant services, or related technical consulting roles
• Background in Solutions Engineering, Sales Engineering, Solutions Architecture, or similar customer-facing technical roles
• Strong understanding of payment gateways, processors, PayFac models, merchant accounts, and payment workflows
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to executive and technical audiences
• Hands-on experience with APIs, integrations, data flows, and troubleshooting
• Proven ability to support technical sales engagements and collaborate cross-functionally
• Strong documentation and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to translate customer needs into product and technical outcomes
• Curious, adaptable, and able to quickly learn new platforms and environments

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with PayFac or embedded payments models
• Exposure to ERP, POS, ecommerce, or multi-location environments
• Background in migrations (gateway, processor, token) or large-scale onboarding
• Familiarity with interchange, fraud tools, chargebacks, and optimization strategies
• Experience creating developer documentation or integration guides
• Basic coding or API prototyping experience is a plus
