Senior Consultant Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior consultant in Minnesota?
Most senior consultant roles in Minnesota require a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business, management information systems, or engineering, followed by several years of progressive consulting or industry experience. Minnesota does not issue a state license specific to general consulting, but specialties like management consulting in healthcare or financial services may require credentials such as a PMP, CPA, or a Minnesota-recognized certification tied to the practice area. Building a record of led client engagements is typically the most direct path.
How much do senior consultants make in Minnesota?
Senior consultants in Minnesota earn a median of about $100,790 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,480 for the lowest 10% to over $162,160 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior consultants in Minnesota?
Employers hiring senior consultants in Minnesota right now include Optum, Cargill, and NetSPI, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Minnesota's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and large healthcare systems means demand comes from both global consulting firms with local offices and in-house advisory teams at major corporations.
Which Minnesota cities have the most senior consultant jobs?
Minneapolis, Eden Prairie, and Wayzata have the most senior consultant openings in Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro drives the bulk of demand because it is home to numerous corporate headquarters, large financial institutions, and major healthcare networks, while Rochester's concentration of medical enterprise creates consistent need for healthcare and operations consultants.
Are there remote senior consultant jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, and more than most professional fields. About 90% of senior consultant openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves analysis, strategy documents, and virtual client meetings rather than on-site presence. The project phases most likely to remain fully remote are research, reporting, and ongoing advisory support, while initial discovery and key presentations more often require in-person attendance.
How can I get hired as a senior consultant in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a consulting firm or large Minnesota employer at an analyst or associate consultant level and building toward the senior title through performance and promoted projects. Firms like Deloitte and Accenture run analyst development programs out of their Minneapolis offices that accept recent graduates, and major Minnesota employers such as UnitedHealth Group and Ameriprise Financial hire associate-level advisory roles that can transition into consulting tracks. Earning a recognized credential such as a PMP or a technology platform certification strengthens a candidate's profile significantly before applying.
