Senior Electronics Engineer Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior electronics engineer in Michigan?
The standard path starts with a bachelor's degree in electrical or electronics engineering from an ABET-accredited program, followed by several years of progressively responsible design experience. Michigan requires licensure through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs for engineers who offer services to the public, which involves passing the Fundamentals of Engineering and Professional Engineering exams. Within industry, seniority is typically recognized through a combination of years of experience, demonstrated project leadership, and domain expertise in areas such as embedded systems or power electronics.
How much do senior electronics engineers make in Michigan?
Senior electronics engineers in Michigan earn a median of about $127,200 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $89,320 for the lowest 10% to over $166,410 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior electronics engineers in Michigan?
Employers hiring senior electronics engineers in Michigan right now include Dorleco, Bertrandt, and LG Electronics, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Michigan's concentration of automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and defense contractors makes it one of the more consistently active states for senior-level electronics engineering talent.
Which Michigan cities have the most senior electronics engineer jobs?
Novi, Troy, and Southfield account for the largest share of senior electronics engineer openings in Michigan. Detroit and its surrounding suburbs drive demand through the automotive and defense electronics sectors, while Ann Arbor's research institutions and University of Michigan spinoffs generate consistent openings, and Grand Rapids attracts industrial automation and medical device engineering roles.
Are there remote senior electronics engineer jobs in Michigan?
Yes, but they're limited. Senior electronics engineering work involves significant hands-on lab and prototype activity, which constrains full remote options compared to purely analytical roles. About 0% of senior electronics engineer openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those that are remote tend to cover system architecture reviews, firmware development, and documentation rather than hardware bring-up or testing work.
How can I get hired as a senior electronics engineer in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a new-graduate or associate engineer role at one of Michigan's large automotive or defense employers, which regularly run structured rotational programs for recent engineering graduates. Companies like General Motors and Aptiv recruit directly from Michigan engineering programs at the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and Michigan Technological University. Building a portfolio of circuit design projects, pursuing an EIT certification through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, and targeting adjacent roles such as electronics technician or test engineer can also open a path toward a full senior engineering track.
Where can I find and apply to senior electronics engineer jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to senior electronics engineer jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current Michigan openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, find positions that match your background and target location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
