Senior Electronics Engineer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior electronics engineer in New York?
Most senior electronics engineer roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in electrical or electronics engineering followed by several years of progressively responsible design experience. While New York does not mandate a state license to work as an electronics engineer in industry, engineers who sign or seal documents for public projects may pursue licensure through the New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions, which administers the Professional Engineer credential. Defense and aerospace roles often require security clearance eligibility as an additional prerequisite.
How much do senior electronics engineers make in New York?
Senior electronics engineers in New York earn a median of about $119,180 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $81,840 for the lowest 10% to over $174,950 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior electronics engineers in New York?
Employers hiring senior electronics engineers in New York right now include Coherent, AMETEK, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of defense contractors on Long Island and semiconductor firms in the Hudson Valley means a broad range of industry contexts, from military systems to commercial chip design, are represented among active openings.
Which New York cities have the most senior electronics engineer jobs?
The cities with the most senior electronics engineer openings in New York are Horseheads, Rochester, and New York. New York City anchors demand through its density of medical device, telecom, and fintech hardware firms, Long Island draws heavily from the defense and aerospace contractors headquartered there, and the Albany-Schenectady area benefits from GlobalFoundries and IBM's chip and research operations driving consistent engineering hiring.
Are there remote senior electronics engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely software-focused disciplines, since electronics engineering work frequently involves lab access, prototype builds, and hands-on testing. About 0% of senior electronics engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, making fully remote roles a minority but a real segment of the market. System architecture, design review, and documentation work are the functions most often offered in remote or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a senior electronics engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a new-graduate or associate engineer role with one of New York's large defense or technology employers, such as Northrop Grumman or L3Harris on Long Island, which run structured new-grad hiring programs. A strong senior project involving PCB layout, embedded firmware, or RF design gives candidates without professional experience a concrete portfolio to present. Lateral entry from adjacent roles in electronics technician, test engineering, or systems integration work is also a well-recognized path at New York employers, particularly in aerospace and medical device firms.
Where can I find and apply to senior electronics engineer jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to senior electronics engineer jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find roles that match your experience and specialization and apply directly to the ones that fit.
