Program Analyst Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a program analyst in New York?
Most program analyst roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as public administration, business, information systems, or finance. New York does not impose a state-issued license for this role, but candidates targeting government positions should familiarize themselves with Civil Service requirements administered by the New York State Department of Civil Service, which classifies many analyst titles and requires passing a competitive exam for permanent state employment.
How much do program analysts make in New York?
Program analysts in New York earn a median of about $109,610 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $67,220 for the lowest 10% to over $171,360 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire program analysts in New York?
Employers hiring program analysts in New York right now include Amazon, Morgan Stanley, and Citi, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of financial institutions, defense contractors, and state and city agencies creates an unusually broad range of program analyst openings across both private and public sectors.
Which New York cities have the most program analyst jobs?
New York, New York City, and Brooklyn have the most program analyst openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its density of financial firms, consulting companies, and federal and city agency offices, while Albany's concentration of New York State government departments drives consistent public-sector demand, and Buffalo's growing healthcare and technology sectors have expanded hiring in recent years.
Are there remote program analyst jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 33% of program analyst openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based and analytical nature of the work. Roles focused on data reporting, IT systems analysis, and policy evaluation are the most consistently offered in fully remote or hybrid arrangements, particularly at consulting firms and technology-oriented employers.
How can I get hired as a program analyst in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a government analyst trainee or junior analyst title, which New York State agencies post as competitive Civil Service titles open to recent graduates. Large employers such as Deloitte, KPMG, and IBM each run structured entry-level analyst programs in New York. Moving laterally from roles like research assistant, data coordinator, or administrative analyst at a city or state agency is another proven door-opener, particularly when paired with proficiency in Excel or a data visualization tool.
Where can I find and apply to program analyst jobs in New York?
