Senior Property Accountant Jobs in New Mexico: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior property accountant in New Mexico?
The most direct path is earning a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, then building experience in property or real estate accounting before stepping into a senior role. New Mexico does not require a state license to work as a property accountant, but many employers in the state prefer or reward candidates who hold or are pursuing CPA licensure through the New Mexico Public Accountancy Board. Experience with affordable housing compliance or commercial portfolio management accelerates advancement considerably.
How much do senior property accountants make in New Mexico?
Senior property accountants in New Mexico earn a median of about $78,580 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $52,390 for the lowest 10% to over $125,420 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior property accountants in New Mexico?
New Mexico senior property accountant roles are posted by Seldin Company, James A. Dinkel P.C., and Apartment Management Consultants and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. New Mexico's significant affordable housing sector and tribal enterprise property operations mean that community development corporations, housing authorities, and tribally owned real estate entities are also consistent sources of senior-level openings.
Which New Mexico cities have the most senior property accountant jobs?
Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Los Alamos have the most senior property accountant openings in New Mexico right now. Albuquerque dominates because it is the state's largest commercial and residential real estate market and home to most of the major property management firms, while Santa Fe and Rio Rancho draw openings from government-adjacent housing programs and growing suburban commercial development.
Are there remote senior property accountant jobs in New Mexico?
Yes, and more than many finance roles, since senior property accountants spend most of their time on financial reporting and analysis rather than on-site inspections. About 55% of senior property accountant openings tied to New Mexico are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how portfolio reporting and general ledger work can travel well. Month-end close, audit support, and CAM reconciliation tasks are the functions most often performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a senior property accountant in New Mexico with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a staff or junior property accountant at a New Mexico housing authority, a regional property management company, or one of the state's community development financial institutions, many of which offer structured onboarding for candidates coming from general accounting roles. Moving from adjacent positions like accounts payable specialist, general ledger accountant, or asset management coordinator is common. Earning an associate-level designation from the Institute of Real Estate Management or pursuing CPA coursework through the University of New Mexico or New Mexico State University gives candidates a clear edge when competing for limited openings.
Where can I find and apply to senior property accountant jobs in New Mexico?
You can find and apply to senior property accountant jobs in New Mexico on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search for roles that fit your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that match your background.
