Senior Security Consultant Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior security consultant in Rhode Island?
The standard path into a senior security consultant role in Rhode Island combines a relevant bachelor's degree with several years of hands-on security experience and a recognized professional credential. Rhode Island does not require a state-issued security consulting license for most corporate and cybersecurity advisory roles, though physical security work may require a Rhode Island Private Detective and/or Security Guard License issued through the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation. Credentials such as CISSP or CISM consistently strengthen candidacy with Rhode Island's defense and healthcare employers.
How much do senior security consultants make in Rhode Island?
Senior security consultants in Rhode Island earn a median of about $109,420 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,880 for the lowest 10% to over $170,180 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior security consultants in Rhode Island?
Employers hiring senior security consultants in Rhode Island right now include FM, CVS Health, and Citizens, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's defense contractor community and major healthcare networks are among the most consistent sources of senior-level security consulting demand in the state.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most senior security consultant jobs?
Johnston, Middletown, and Providence have the most senior security consultant openings in Rhode Island. Providence dominates as the state's commercial and healthcare hub, while Warwick benefits from its proximity to T.F. Green Airport and a cluster of financial services and government contractors, and Newport's historic naval presence drives demand for defense-aligned security consulting roles.
Are there remote senior security consultant jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, and more than many security roles, because advisory and compliance-focused consulting work translates well to distributed delivery. About 44% of senior security consultant openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the mix of on-site defense work and location-flexible risk advisory engagements. Cybersecurity risk assessment, policy development, and compliance consulting are the sub-areas most likely to be offered remotely.
How can I get hired as a senior security consultant in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a junior security analyst or IT risk analyst role at a Rhode Island defense contractor or healthcare system, then building toward the senior consultant tier. Lifespan Health System and Brown University Health regularly hire entry-level security analysts, and defense-aligned firms in the Warwick and Newport corridors often onboard associates from military or law enforcement backgrounds. Earning an entry-level credential such as CompTIA Security+ and completing a formal compliance or risk project, even in a volunteer or internship capacity, materially strengthens a Rhode Island candidacy.
