Senior Software Developer Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior software developer in Florida?
Senior software developer roles in Florida do not require a state-issued license, so the path runs through education and experience. Most Florida employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline, followed by several years building production systems. Florida's concentration of defense contractors and healthcare IT firms means candidates who add security clearances or healthcare data compliance knowledge move up faster than generalists.
How much do senior software developers make in Florida?
Senior software developers in Florida earn a median of about $130,980 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $80,050 for the lowest 10% to over $204,400 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior software developers in Florida?
Employers hiring senior software developers in Florida right now include Speechify, L3Harris, and Northrop Grumman, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's mix of defense primes, major hospital networks, and fintech firms means senior developer demand is spread across multiple industries rather than concentrated in a single sector.
Which Florida cities have the most senior software developer jobs?
Tampa, Melbourne, and Miami have the most senior software developer openings in Florida. Miami draws fintech and enterprise software hiring, Tampa is home to a growing cluster of cybersecurity and healthcare IT firms, and Orlando's defense and simulation industry anchors demand from employers such as Lockheed Martin and L3Harris.
Are there remote senior software developer jobs in Florida?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 59% of senior software developer openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how fully desk-based the work is. Roles in cloud infrastructure, backend API development, and data engineering tend to be the most consistently remote, while positions requiring access to classified networks or on-site lab environments typically stay in-office.
How can I get hired as a senior software developer in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic starting point is an associate or junior developer role, which most large Florida employers post separately. Hospital systems like AdventHealth and HCA Florida run IT associate programs, and defense contractors including Leidos and L3Harris hire entry-level engineers and offer clearance sponsorship for new graduates. Building a public portfolio on GitHub and earning a cloud certification from AWS or Google Cloud gives Florida candidates a concrete edge over applicants with comparable experience but no demonstrable output.
Where can I find and apply to senior software developer jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to senior software developer jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Florida employers. Search the listings, find roles that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that match.
